Ted Was There! Were You?

  On Saturday, May 30 the Market will celebrate its 5 years of service to the community! Sally Slook, Assistant Township Manager, brought her "lovable mutt" that was quickly commandeered by a marketeer on opening day


Pursuit of Law Enforcement 

  Isaiah Alicea, a senior at UMHS, spent several weeks with members of the police department for his senior project on how law enforcement is perceived in the township. Corporal Brandy Faherty met Isaiah and his family through the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program. Isaiah wants to pursue a career in federal law enforcement.

Eating Pays....
Dining at Champps in King of Prussia on Wednesday, June 3 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM  will help pay for Parks and Recreation Department programs.  Detective Les Glauner says in this video that part of the proceeds will benefit the Daniel T. GVF Tracks Future
The Greater Valley Forge Transportation Management Association discusses the future of area transit development. Representatives from Tredyffrin TownshipChester County Planning CommissionSoutheastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA)KOP-BID (King of Prussia Business Improvement District), and Borough of Pottstown were present on May 20 at the township building. 
Reading Budding Celebration

Big and Little Reading Buddies who actively participated in the literacy program during the 2014-15 school year were honored on Tuesday, May 19 by the Upper Merion Township Library, during it's annual Reading Buddy Celebration. More than 125 people attended. 

Janil Patel, owner of the King of Prussia Dunkin Donuts, sponsored a donut decorating contest for the Reading Buddies.

50th Upper Merion Regatta

The Upper Merion Area High School Crew Team and the Crew Parent Booster will be hosting its 50th Home Regatta at the Upper Merion Boathouse in Bridgeport on Sunday, May 31. Boat races start at 9:15 AM.  

 

Wanna' Prune?  

The Upper Merion Shade Tree & Beautification Commission invites you to learn and practice some basic pruning and tree care skills on Saturday, June 6, at 9:00 AM at Heuser Park (near playground).

 

Pruning Details

Viking 5K Run

The Upper Merion Area Educational Foundation is hosting a Viking 5K Run at Caley Elementary School on Sunday, May 31 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Walk the trails on National Trails Day at McKaig Nature Education Center on Saturday June 6 from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

Chipolte Fundraiser

Please help us spread the word about the Township Library's upcoming fundraiser on Tuesday, June 23 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Proceeds of  50%  will be donated to the library. 

 

Be Inspired

A Writers' Workshop for teens in Grade 7 through 12 will be held on Tuesday, June 2 at 7:00 PM in Freedom Hall. You must register. The workshop is led by UMASD High School teachers.

SAFETY AND CODES

No Butts About It!

Carelessly tossed cigarette butts into flowered or mulched areas results in unnecessary litter, disruption of traffic, and  emergency responses by the fire department. Message boards, coordinated by the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company and the UMPD, remind motorists not to toss cigarette butts.

E-HISTORY FACT

Property Rental Rates in the 1600's 

William Penn laid out the "Manor of Mount Joy" for his daughter in 1683. The Manor comprised 7,800 acres and included nearly all of present-day Upper Merion Township, whose boundaries it overlapped. The rent for the 7,800 acres was to be one beaver skin a year.

BCA Recipient Unveiled

Recipients of the Board of Community Assistance Grant and the Senior Student Scholarships were announced at the Board of Supervisors public meeting on May 28. See who they are by visiting the township's FB and Twitter pages.

Water Shut Off

Property owners who have failed to make full payment on their delinquent sewer balance will have their water shut off beginning June/July 2015. A posting by the water company and a bright green door hanger, issued by Upper Merion Township, will be issued. 

 

Please Note: All delinquent property owners have been issued delinquent notices in February 2015 with 30 days to make payment and second notices in April 2015 with an additional 15 days to make payment.

Road Repair

State crews continue to work aggressively to repair pavement damage on state highways in the five-county Philadelphia. PennDOT is working to repair higher volume roadways first.
