May The Oars Be.....

...with the Upper Merion High School Crew Team for its Star Wars-themed fundraiser on Monday, May 4 from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Petrucci's Ice Cream. See Darth Bug, the VW Beetle. A portion of the sales will go to the crew team.

 

5K Run

The Upper Merion Area Educational Foundation is hosting a Viking 5K Run at Caley Elementary School on May 31 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. More information can be found here.  

 

Join the Upper Merion Township Environmental Advisory Council and the partners of the Schuylkill Action Network to clean up the King of Prussia streams on Saturday, May 2 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
 
Blood Drive
The American Red Cross  will hold a blood drive on Monday, June 8 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Upper Merion Township Building.

Tree Alert
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society is co-sponsoring a free tree giveaway with the Phillies and CSX.  Register online for your free tree! It will be a nice sized containerized tree that can be planted anywhere.

Dig This! 

On Saturday, May 9, the King of Prussia Historical Society will present Digging into the Upper Merion Archives. A picnic will follow the presentation, during which attendees can view some of the recent treasures added to the Society's historical collections. This event is free to the public but donations are appreciated.

This is a fun, free online hands-on science program that starts on Monday, May 4 at 12:00 PM.  The program will be held on July 13 - 16 at the library.  Registration is first come, first serve.

Mulch Fires

Fire services has been responding to a number of mulch fires. Landscaping beds are being used as ashtrays, impacting volunteer firefighters time. An educational effort by John Waters, Chief Fire Marshal, in conjunction with UMGA-TV, will be offered.  In  the  meantime, here is what you can do to help

PUBLIC WORKS

Weadley Road - Update 

Weadley Road will remain closed until May 15 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  The storm water pipe replacement will encompass a larger section than originally anticipated.

Non-Township Project

PennDOT plans to resurface the milled sections of South Gulph Road and Henderson Road on Sunday May 3, around midnight.

 

Bid Proposal

The township is sponsoring the 2015-2016 Consortium Fuel Contract Bid. Bids will be publicly opened on Thursday, May 7 at 11:00 AM and a tentative bid award date will be posted on the PennBid website

E-HISTORY FACT

First Post War School

Gulph Elementary, built in 1953, was situated behind the Gulph Road School and was the first post-war program of schools in Upper Merion. It had twenty-one rooms and housed 500 grade school pupils. Today, the building houses the Upper Merion Senior Service Center.
