E-HISTORY FACT |
Organization Anniversary
Most fire companies were organized as a result of big fires. The Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company was unique since it was organized during World War II to protect the community and Upper Merion Township as part of civilian defense. At the time, Swedesburg was Upper Merion's most heavily populated area with more than 1,000 residents with many industries that were producing materials for the war. On February 16, 1942, the fire company was organized and held elections on February 23. The company was incorporated by the Montgomery County Courts on May 11.
