History Makers 
Maya Angelou, born Marguerite Johnson, was an American author, poet, dancer, actress, and singer. She published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, and several books of poetry, and was credited with a list of plays.  She was born on April 4, 1928 and died on May 28, 2014.

    Rambler Rides On
    The Rambler service has new stops: Heuser Park, Valley Forge Casino Resort, and Target. Wal-Mart and Wegmans are now permanent stops. Two buses travel a fixed route through the township from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. New schedule click here.


    Clean & Green
     The Safety and Codes Enforcement plumbing inspector has a new Chevy Sierra pick-up truck that uses compressed natural gas. A few months ago, Codes Enforcement entered the alternative fueled vehicle arena by purchasing a Chevy Volt, an electric vehicle.

    COMMUNITY 

    Sisters Giving Back

    Young African American female students can apply for the "Sisters Giving Back Scholarship," which provides students with  $2000 funding, based on  Academic Achievement, Overcoming Adversity, and Community Service. The deadline is April 30, 2015. Application found here.

     

    BCA Applications Deadline

    Applicants have until March 15 to submit their applications to the Board of Community Assistance! This charitable monetary assistance. received by the township from the Valley Forge Casino Resort (VFCR), is dispersed to organizations or individuals who have a community need. Scholarship applications for students who have demonstrated a commitment through public service are also being accepted. Applications found here. 

     

    KOP Rail Project Survey

    The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) welcomes your interest and participation in the King of Prussia Rail Project. Survey questions can be found here.

      

    Road to Valley Forge

    On Saturday, February 7 at 2:00 PM at Christ Church Old Swedes, local author Sheila Vance will describe the six days George Washington and his army spent at Gulph Mills and Rebel Hill. . Click here. 


     

    Happy Birthday

    On Presidents Day, February 16 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the Valley Forge National Historical Park will host a "party" for Washington to commemorate his 283rd birthday. More information here.

    Public Meeting

    The next public meeting for the P & R Master Plan Subcommittee will be held on Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 PM in the Valley Forge Room.     PUBLIC WORKS

    Residential Salt Barrels 

    All salt barrels throughout the township have been refilled with anti-skid material to assist motorists in inclement weather. This material WILL NOT de-ice driveways and sidewalks.

    Tutor.com Is Here!

     Students with King of Prussia home addresses may use their library card number as their Tutor.com ID number. UMASD students from Bridgeport and Conshohocken may receive tutor.com ID numbers by contacting the library at 610-265-4805. Further details are on the township website.

    Dr. Charles Blockson will appear on Saturday, February 7 at 2:00 PM in Henderson Room. Blockson will discuss his book, The President's House Revisited Behind the Scenes: the Samuel Fraunces Story.

    Stuffed Animal Sleepover

    Children ages 3 - 6 are invited along with their favorite stuffed animal to a special story time on Thursday, February 12 at 6:30 PM.  At the end of the story time, children will leave their stuffed friend for a sleepover at the library.  Register here

    E-HISTORY FACT
    The Origin Of Colonial Village
    A community of residential homes, Colonial Village, originated in 1929. J. Howard Mecke, a realtor and well known developer, started building Colonial Village in 1928 in Upper Merion, Township. Mecke's houses were noted for garages with rooms above. For the local residents, Mecke also built the Colonial Village Swimming Club, one of the early swimming clubs in Upper Merion not far from Martin's Dam.

    POLICE

    Bike ID

    The Upper Merion Police Department recovered this bike in December 2014 and is trying to locate the owner. Contact Det. Les Glauner at 610-265-3232. Proof of ownership will be required. 

     

    ON THE MOVE

    Lane Shift

    PennDot will move the westbound lane of U.S. 422 over to the eastbound side of the highway between the Route 100 and Stowe interchanges on Saturday, February 7 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The deteriorating dual bridges over the Schuylkill River, between the two interchanges are being replaced. The bridges were built in 1965.
