Township Support
Upper Merion Township provided shelter in Freedom Hall on Sunday, January 18, 2015 after icy roadways caused a 60 vehicle pile-up at the Gulph Mills interchange on I-76. Greg Philips, Board of Supervisors Chairperson; David G. Kraynik, Township Manager; and members of staff were on hand to assist.

Feel the Warmth

Superbowl Sunday
PennDOT is urging drivers to watch the weather forecast, prepare to change any travel plans, and designate a sober driver ahead of time. PennDOT data shows there were 287 crashes last year, with two fatalities in those crashes: 17 crashes were alcohol-related.
Happy Birthday
On Presidents Day, February 16 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the Valley Forge National Historical Park will host a "party" for Washington to commemorate his 283rd birthday. More information here.
Club Gives Time
Members of the Upper Merion Women's Club warmed the tummies of more than 150 homeless people on Thursday, January 29, with chili con carne at St. John's Soup Kitchen in Norristown. The kitchen feeds approximately 600 people weekly.
Can't Get Out?
Take advantage of Neighhborhood Meals On Wheels, a non-profit organization where volunteers deliver meals to residents who have difficulty with shopping for food and preparing meals. (Service may be either temporary or long-term) Visit www.neighborhoodmealsonwheels.com.
In Memory Of
The township extends its condolences to the families and friends of Bill Ross, former Board Supervisor, and Gene Lonchar, Fire and Rescue Services Board member, both of whom passed away on Thursday, January 29. Mr. Ross served from 1957-1963 and Mr. Lonchar served for over 20 years.

Traffic Signal Repair
Armour and Sons Electric will repair the traffic signal pole and mast arm on the north west corner of Henderson Road and Valley Forge Road on Saturday, January 31, at 8:00 AM, weather permitting. Weather date: Saturday, February 7.
Congrats PW!
The Public Works Department received an Honorable Mention after submitting a nomination form to the Delaware Valley Insurance Trusts for the 2014 Risk Management Innovation Award. They replaced belt filter presses with rotary press sludge dewatering technology. Details here.

Book Talk
Dr. Charles Blockson will appear on Saturday, February 7 at 2:00 PM in the Henderson Room to discuss his book, The President's House Revisited behind the Scenes: the Samuel Fraunces Story. The event is co-sponsored by Delta Sigma Tau Sorority and the library's Friends of Black History.
Winter Reading Program

PJ Story Time
All kids ages 2 - 5 years old and their families can come to the library in their pajamas on Tuesday, at 7:00 PM from now through March 3. The story hour is filled with great books, songs, and crafts. No registration necessary.

Origins of Hughes Park
In 1928, Hughes Park became one of the first planned subdivisions in the township. Road patterns, utilities, and plots of land were staked out so that buyers could purchase their own lots and construct their own dwellings. However, with the Depression of 1929, many of the lots sat empty for years.

On Saturday February 7 at 2:00 PM at Christ Church Old Swedes, Sheila Vance will talk about the six days George Washington and his army spent at Gulph Mills and Rebel Hill. The author is a local resident.Click here.

The township's website will be inaccessible from Friday, January 30 at 11:00 PM, until Saturday, January 31 at 7:00 AM EST. Periodical upgrades are needed to improve our site's stability and security. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Staffers Unite The IT Department and the Public Information Office are teaming up to upgrade the township's website. During the Content Phase, the website sub-committee (consisting of 14 members) will consolidate, reorganize, and purge information in order to streamline the "nested" menus or "drop down's." Slow Going
U.S. 422's eastbound left lane will be closed on Tuesday, February 3 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and the westbound left lane will be closed Wednesday, February 4 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Crews are working to install shielding beneath the Route 363 (Trooper Road) bridge.
