Schuylkill River West Trail
Over the rivers and through the woods to the Schuylkill River West Trail we go! Outdoor enthusiasts will have another source of community identity and pride on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 3:30 PM during a groundbreaking ceremony in Heuser Park (600 Beidler Road, King of Prussia). This multi-use 15.5 mile continuous trail and greenway will start in Philadelphia and Bala Cynwyd, run through Lower Merion Township, to the border of West Conshohocken, continuing through Bridgeport and Upper Merion Township.

The Schuylkill River West Trail project in Upper Merion Township, which began in 2007, was envisioned and advanced by Upper Merion Township's Board of Supervisors. It was recognized that being in the presence of nature while walking, hiking or running has added benefits for physical and mental health and enjoyment. This current segment of trail will begin in Heuser Park and continue outside Valley Forge National Historical Park (VFNHP) near the US 422 Bridge.

Upper Merion residents will have access to VFNHP, Heuser Park and Bob Case Park. The Schuylkill River West River Trail project, when completed in the fall of 2015, will be over 2 miles in length in Upper Merion Township.

Public Information Office Grand Opening

The long awaited official Grand Opening of the Upper Merion Township Public Information Office (PIO) was held during an Open House on December 4. Residents were invited to see what the PIO has to offer to residents of Upper Merion Township.

The Public Information Office Team shared information that impacts residents, employees, and visitors of Upper Merion Township. Township officials were also on hand during the event. The Public Information Office is located in the Upper Merion Township Building across from the Police Communication Center.

Babies and Books

Dr. Nersi Niami of King of Prussia Pediatrics to provide a welcoming packet to each family of a newborn baby in their practice.  Approximately 200 educational packets have already been given out to many appreciative families.  Each packet includes a classic board book, bookmark providing information about the library's free resources/services and tips for promoting early literacy with young children.

Studies show that a child's brain develops rapidly during the first few years of life, and young children learn best by interacting with people, not screens (televisions, computers or video games).  Experts believe that having access to a variety of books at home strengthens a child's vocabulary and interest in reading, even as infants.  The library's literacy outreach effort was initially sponsored through a grant from Target.  Thanks to the generosity of the local business and community leaders involved in the King of Prussia Rotary Club, the library has been able to continue their efforts to educate families on the importance of reading with children at an early age.

The Upper Merion Township Library offers free story times for children from birth to six years old, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program to encourage reading at home and informative parent child workshops for parents and caregivers in the community.  For more information on all the wonderful services and programs being offered at the library for children and adults, please go to www.umtownship.org/library.

Financial Excellence Achievement
Upper Merion's taxpayers can rest assured that their tax dollars are judiciously managed by the township. The township received its 17th consecutive Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

When Doing Property Maintenance...
Please do NOT rake or blow your leaves beyond your curb-line or property's border into the roadway travel lanes. It is a violation of the township ordinance and it creates a situation where the police department must respond to unsafe roadway conditions. Please help your Police Department, your neighbors and the traveling public in creating the safest roadways especially during the winter season.
