 Enchanted Library Huge Success! 
On Friday, November 7 from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, the Upper Merion Township Library was magically transformed into a "Top Secret" detective scene, during the 6th annual Enchanted Library. More than 310 children and adults met some of children's literature's most famous  detectives and helped solve "The Mystery of the Lost Treasure."

Sustainable Success
This award was given to Upper Merion Township's Information Technology Department for its accomplishments in green procurement of computer and imaging equipment in 2013.  IT was awarded Bronze recognition by the State Electronics Challenge. Look for information supplied by the IT Department in the winter edition of Township Lines on environmentally friendly ways to properly dispose your computer.

BCA - November 15

The Board of Community Assistance is giving away  money.  The Senior Student Scholarship application and the 501 (c) Organization and Agency application can be found  here.  The deadline is Sunday, March 15, 2015.    

 

BCA - Application Process

* Visit here, the Township Building, or call 610-265-2600 to obtain an application.

* Applications remain on file for 1 year, unless the applicant requests withdrawal.

* Applicants are interviewed by at least two members of the Board of Supervisors.

* If an applicant is not selected, the application will remain on file for 1 year for future consideration. 

* All applicants are notified by mail once a decision is made.
 

SEPTA's King of Prussia Rail Project

Public meetings have been scheduled for Monday, November 17 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge (Grand Ballroom), beginning at 4:00 PM,  and on Wednesday, November 19, at Norristown's Municipal Building, beginning at 4:00 PM.

 

Holiday Toy Drive

Feel The Warmth! A local 501 (c) 3 non profit organization is holding its 3rd annual toy drive, which  runs until December 14. More information here.    

 

Blood Drive Results

Your blood donation on November 3, 2014, at the Upper Merion Township Building will help 69 patients in local hospitals.  Here are the results: Red Cross goal: 27, Scheduled Participants: 40, Presenting: 26, Collected: 23


Tree Planting

Help us plant trees on Saturday, November 15 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Whitegate Park.  If you're interested in volunteering, just show up!


Food Drive

A non-perishable food drive, hosted by the Valley Forge Patriots Girls Softball team, will be held on Saturday, November 22 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Heuser Park.  All goods will be donated to Philabundance.  

 

PUBLIC WORKS

Help Us, Help You

Please do NOT rake or blow your leaves beyond your curb-line or your property's border into the roadway travel lanes. This is a violation of a township ordinance and could require the police department to respond to unsafe roadway conditions. Click here.

 

Please Be Patient 

Weather conditions determine when your leaves will be picked up. Leaf collection in Zone 3 is 100% complete. Crews  have begun collection in Area 1. Crews will revisit all roads. Check which zone you are in here

Countdown Begins

Our seasonal Farmers Market ends on Saturday, November 22. The winter market begins on Saturday, December 6. Several of our vendors will be here every other week from 10:00 AM to Noon. 

 

Chili Tops It Off
The Market will close out its 5th season with the annual Chili Cook-off and a visit from the Mummers! So get to steppin'! Dig  through your recipes today, and for just $5 you can taste all the entries and pick the winner! Stop by the Market information booth on Saturday, November 15, if you plan to enter the cook-off.

PARKS AND RECREATION

Your Voice Matters 

The Township Parks and Recreation Department is updating the township's Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan.  The next public meeting is Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 6:30 PM in the Valley Forge Room at the township building.

 

Holiday Hoopla  

Celebrate the holidays with Parks and Recreation on Friday, December 5 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. All festivities will be on the upper level of the township building. We will announce the winners of the Holiday Light Contest. More information here.

 

Time To Give 

We're collecting non-perishable food items for Upper Merion Emergency Aid. Please bring donations on Friday, December 5.

 

Adult Basketball League
Runs Sunday and Tuesday evenings, starting on Sunday, December 7.  Limited space - registration is first come, first-served.

 

Parenting Center
Facilitators Janet Main and Cynthia Grivner will be available on Thursdays from  9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, starting December 11.  They will share practical and helpful advice that every parent will benefit from knowing. For more information, please call 484-685-5474 or email umparenting@gmail.com.

The Upper Merion Police Association held a Beef n Beverage fundraiser on November 7. Thank you to all who attended and donated non-perishable food. All items were given to the Upper Merion Emergency Aid organization.

 

SENIOR CENTER

We Are Trippin'

On Wednesday, November 19, we will be hosting

a trip to the Valley Forge Casino. The shuttle departs from the center at 9:30 AM and returns at 2:00 PM.

 

Band Tours 

The UMSSC Band will perform at the Upper Merion  Middle School's Patriotic Concert on Monday, November 24 at 7:00 PM.


Holiday Celebration  

The UMSSC is  hosting its annual Holiday Party on Monday, December 8 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the  Grand Ballroom at the Radisson Tower of the Valley Forge Casino. Cost: UMSSC Members $23.00 Non-UMSSC members $26.00.

With Appreciation

The library greatly acknowledges everyone who participated in the California Pizza Kitchen fundraiser on Thursday, November 13. By eating pizza with purpose, 20% of your sales benefited the library. The library especially thanks California Pizza Kitchen for its generosity and its support of the library. We will keep the public informed on how much money was raised.

The Economic and Community Development Committee's November 17 meeting has been cancelled. Our last meeting of the year is scheduled for December 15 at 7:00 PM. We encourage interested citizens to apply for the board vacancy.

E-HISTORY FACT

PA's First State Park

Valley Forge Park was established as the first state park of Pennsylvania in 1893.  It was charged by the Valley Forge Park Commission "to preserve, improve, and maintain as a public park the site on which General George Washington's army encamped at Valley Forge." The area around Washington's Headquarters was chosen as the park site.
