Breast Cancer Awareness Month 

Each year more than 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die from it. Find how you can lower your breast cancer risk by clicking here
(Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,150 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 410 will die each year.)

 

 

Celebrating Service

The annual Citizen Boards, Committees, and Authorities Appreciation Luncheon was held on Sunday  October 5, at Maggiano's Little Italy. Several staff liaison members attended.

Herzlich Willkommen zum Oktoberfest!

The Upper Merion Farmers Market is celebrating Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 11. Proceeds benefit the Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company (MONTCO 49)! Food includes: Knockwurst, German Potato Salad, Sauerkraut, Hard Pretzels, and Birch Beer. LIVE entertainment and much more.  Experience the excitement from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. 

(What does Herzlich Willkommen zum Oktoberfest mean?  It's simply an enthusiastic German invitation to Ockoberfest!)

Tour A'Dello Vineyard and Winery in Perkiomenville, PA on Sunday, October 12. Bus service will be provided at 1:00 PM from the Upper Merion Township building. Must be 21. Slow Going

Route 422 will be reduced to one lane in both directions at the Route 363 Interchange from Sunday, October 12 to Friday, October 24 from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM for overhead bridge painting.

Greenfield and the Fall of the Protestant Establishmentwill be at the Library on October 15, at 3:00 PM. Ray Didinger, author of The New Eagles Encyclopedia  and  award winning American sportswriter, will be at the library on October 21, at 3:00 PM. Buy your very own signed copies.

Game Face On? 

There will be a life-sized Candyland for kids at the Library at 1:00 PM on Monday, October 13 for grades 1-4. Register here.  At 3:30 PM we will offer a life-sized Clue for students in grades 5 - 8.  All games will take place in Freedom Hall.  Register here.

All children in K-8 grade are invited to enter the 40th annual Write and Illustrate Your Own Book Contest.  Entries are due to the Library by 9:00 PM on Wednesday, October 22.

PSA - Aggressive Driving 

The UMPD is participating in a program that could save your life. It's called the Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project. Watch video here


 

No Soliciting

The township's "no soliciting" stickers are small enough to place in the corners of your windows and doors. The signs can be obtained at the police desk, police records, the public information office, and the cashier's office of the township building. The new ordinance went into effect on September 23, 2014

Festive Fall Opening 

The Public Information Office opened its window during a soft launch on Monday, October 6. Stay tuned as staff prepares to open its door to a festive fall opening.  Information boxes outside the window contain: Upcoming Bake Sale, Aging Literature, UMSSC Newsletter and Brochures of Valley Forge National Historical Park and the King of Prussia Historical Society and much more.   

 

Board Workshop  

The Board of Supervisors Workshop will be held at 7:30 PM in Freedom Hall on Thursday, November 6, due to an anticipated large turnout.

SENIOR CENTER

Big Bingo

On Saturday, October 11, the UMSSC will be holding its 4th BIG Bingo.  Doors open at 11:00 AM and the games begin at 12:00 PM. Lots of fun for everyone!  

 

"Breaking Legs"

The UMSSC is hosting a trip to the Hunterdon Hill Playhouse.  Tickets on sale now. The form is located at the Center. The cost is  $60.00 for members and $65.00 for non-members. Cost includes transportation, lunch and show.


Casino Trip

The UMSSC is hosting a trip to Resorts Casino in Atlantic City on Thursday, October 16. This trip is in collaboration with the Wayne Senior Center. Bus departs from UMSSC at 9:00 AM and returns approximately 6:00 PM. Cost: $25.00. Register at the UMSSC.
