Celebrating A Long And Distinguished Career

The Board of Supervisors, all members of the Police Department, and the Township Staff wish Captain John Hellebush a wonderful retirement. John served the community for 39 years and provided exemplary service for all township residents who were in need. Thank you John for truly being one of Upper Merion's finest!

 Civic Minded
On May 22 students from the Caley Elementary School's fourth grade classes, also known as the  "Class of 2022" visited the Township Building. The students enjoyed a show at the Library, examined the Police Department's emergency equipment, and finally made their own news report with the Information Office's own UMGA-TV team.

COMMUNITY 
Fundraiser 
The Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a fundraising "Friday night grille" on Friday, May 30th from 5-8 PM. The fundraiser is being held to help the Upper Merion High School Crew team who are still repairing their boathouse which was damaged in recent flooding. The team intends to have the boat house ready for their home regatta which is on Saturday, May 31 from 8-4 PM. Members of the community are welcome and encouraged to attend both events!

PUBLIC WORKS

Road Work On Powderhorn Road 

(Between Forge & Flintlock Roads)
Work is currently underway on the Powderhorn Road water main. Work hours are from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM and are expected to conclude in June.
 
Travel Alert
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on northbound and southbound sides of Route 202 at Allendale Road from 9 p.m. Friday (May 30) to 6 p.m. Saturday (May 31) for utility installation and concrete patching. Please allow extra time when traveling through the work area as backups may occur.

Teens Take Charge

Teens and parents are invited to a program on empowerment, where you will learn what to look for in what you put in and on your body. Join us in the Henderson Room on June 16 at 7:00 pm. Registration Required.

 

Savvy Social Security Workshop: 

"What Baby Boomers Need to Know To Maximize Retirement Income". Session 1: Saturday,  June 14 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Session 2: Saturday, June 21 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Both sessions will be in Freedom Hall. Registration Required. For ages 58 through 67 

  

"Science in the Summer" is back! 

GlaxoSmithKline and The Franklin Institute will bring chemistry to life this summer for children entering 2nd - 6th grades.  This free, fun, educational, and interactive program will be held on Monday, July 21 - Thursday, July 24, 2014, with 45 minute sessions in both the morning and afternoon each day.  Space is limited.  Stop into the library to register from May 1st - 31st. Participants will be selected by lottery and notified by phone during the week of 6/2/14.

 

Get ready for Summer Reading at the library

Fizz, Boom, Read!  Calling all kids going into Kindergarten through 8th grade. The Library's Summer Reading Club registration begins on Monday, June 16.  Register and read great books that you select this summer to win cool medals and hot prizes.  Remember that all books must be logged in at the library by Friday, August 29th to win prizes.   Dive into science this summer at the library!

Look who joined Twitter? The Upper Merion Police Department is expanding its communications with area residents and visitors. Its  Twitter page launched on May 1, at 12:40 PM.  Follow them @UMerionPD.

 

Few More Spaces 

No more playing cops and robbers: experience the real thing this summer. The Cop Camp program begins Monday, June 16 from 9:00 AM SHARP to 1:00 PM at Heuser Park. (Address: 694 West Beidler Road) Applicants must be 11-13 years old by June 16 and provide a good conduct endorsement from their school. Sign up by contacting Parks and Recreation: 610-265-1071.

SENIOR CENTER

Hunterdon Trip

On Tuesday, June 10 there will be a Hunterdon Hills Playhouse Dinner Theater trip to see "Better with a Band". This new musical will kick off the summer right with a fantastic onstage orchestra. It will showcase the music of classic Big Bands: the piano will lead a celebration of such iconic singer/songwriters as Carole King, Barry Manilow, Ray Price and Neil Sedaka, and even "Ol' Blue Eyes" himself, Frank Sinatra. Enjoy fantastic singing and dancing from talented performers and marvel at the beautiful costumes and scenery.  $60.00 UMSSC members - $65.00 non-UMSSC members. Cost includes: transportation, show, and luncheon. Bus departs center at 9:30 AM. This trip is funded in part by a grant awarded by the Board of Community Assistance.
