Celebrating Emergency Responders

Upper Merion emergency services were at the mall last Saturday afternoon to celebrate National Police Week and EMS Week. During the event, the community checked out the important gear used in emergency responses and met the professional men and women who risk their lives when emergencies occur. The volunteers and staff also offered safety tips to members of the public.


 
Keeping The Crew Moving
The Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a "Friday Night Grille" fundraiser on Friday, May 30th from 5-8 PM. Proceeds will be used to help the Upper Merion High School Crew team repair their boathouse that was damaged in recent flooding. The team intends to have the boathouse ready for their home regatta on Saturday, May 31 from 8-4 PM.

Water Conservation

If you are within the PA American water service area, please conserve your water until issues within the system can be resolved. Note that boiling water is not necessary within Upper Merion Township. Visit this site to find out more information.  

 

Pancake Breakfast

You are invited to a pancake breakfast at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Saturday June 14th from 8:00 - 10:30am. The cost is $8 per adult and $4 for children six and under. Bring this e-newsletter printed or on your phone and receive $1 off per person!  All proceeds will benefit our trip to work in the Nibakure Village orphanage in Rwanda.  Location: 132 E. Save The Date

Upper Merion Township is hosting the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, June 2 from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Upper Merion Township Building. Make your appointment here.  Use sponsor code: Upper Merion Community.  

  

Warm Up To Us

For every $10 donated, Feel the Warmth, a non-profit organization, will provide a backpack that contains supplies, a winter coat, and several children's books for county residents in need. PUBLIC WORKS

Road Work On Powderhorn Road 

(Between Forge & Flintlock Roads)
Work is currently underway on the water main on Powderhorn Road, which will improve service for local residents. Work hours are from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM and are expected to conclude in June.

LIBRARY

Teens Take Charge

Inviting teens and parents on June 16 at 7 pm in Henderson Room. Join us for a short evening of empowerment, where you will learn what to look for in what you put in and on your body. Registration Required.

 

Savvy Social Security Workshop: 

What Baby Boomers Need to Know To Maximize Retirement Income. Session 1: Saturday,  June 14 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Session 2: Saturday, June 21 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Both sessions will be in Freedom Hall. Registration Required. For ages 58 through 67 

  

"Science in the Summer" is back! 

GlaxoSmithKline and The Franklin Institute will bring Chemistry to life this summer for children entering 2nd - 6th grades.  This free, fun, educational, and interactive program, sponsored by the library, will be held on Monday, July 21 - Thursday, July 24, 2014 ,with 45 minute sessions in both the morning and afternoon each day.  Space is limited.  Registration is open from May 1st - 31st. Stop into the library to register.  Participants will be selected by lottery and notified by phone during the week of 6/2/14. 

 

Get ready for Summer Reading at the library

Fizz, Boom, Read!  Calling all kids going into Kindergarten through 8th grade... the Library's Summer Reading Club registration begins on Monday, June 16.  Register and read great books that you select this summer to win cool medals and hot prizes.  Remember that all books must be logged in at the library by Friday, August 29th to win prizes.   Dive into science this summer at the library!

Look who joined Twitter? The Upper Merion Police Department is expanding its communications with area residents and visitors. Its  Twitter page launched on May 1, at 12:40 PM.  Follow them @UMerionPD.

 

Few More Spaces 

No more playing cops and robbers: experience the real thing this summer. The Cop Camp program begins Monday, June 16 from 9:00 AM SHARP to 1:00 PM at Heuser Park. (Address: 694 West Beidler Road) Applicants must be 11-13 years old by June 16 and provide a good conduct endorsement from their school. Sign up by contacting Parks and Recreation: 610-265-1071.

Every 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at the UMSSC, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Lori Gnacek of Bryn Mawr Hospital/Main Line Health will be available to check your blood pressure.
