Earth Day
 Festival
The fun begins Saturday, April 26 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM.  You can visit a variety of vendors, enter the Earth Day Poster Contest, and participate in the 5K Run & Fun Walk at 8:30 AM. The carnival games are hosted by the Upper Merion Middle School Science Club. Location: Upper Merion Township Building.  
 



  
  Fire Academy Training
Members of the three Upper Merion Volunteer Fire Companies - King of Prussia, Swedeland, and Swedesburg participated in drill exercises on Thursday, April 24. A Live Burn, at the Montgomery County Fire Academy was conducted for interior fire fighting re-certification.  This mandatory training helps keep our Upper Merion volunteers up to date with current fire fighting procedures. Look for this to air on UMGA-TV's Spotlight, hosted by Mark Shepperd, this spring.

We didn't say it! But, we were thinking it!  Six of our vendors will be at the Earth Day celebration on Saturday, March 26.  Will you?

 

Celebrating 5th Anniversary!  

Mark your calendar! We are celebrating our 5th anniversary with a chicken barbeque on Saturday, May 17. We are selling tickets at the Farmers Market booth during the Earth Day celebration!!!! Cost? $8.00 for chicken platter of thigh, drumstick, and two sides ($5 for chicken only). The event will be held in conjunction with the Swedesburg Fire Company.

Designer Bag Bingo?   

Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company is hosting Designer Bag Bingo. The fundraiser will be held on Sunday, April 27 at the Swedesburg Fire Company Social Hall.  Doors open at 12:00 PM and the game starts at 1:00 PM. Admission:  $20.00.  Designer bags include: Coach, Vera Bradley, Stella & Dot, and MORE!  Contact Laurie at 610-272-3437 for advanced tickets.

Save The Date

Upper Merion Township is hosting the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, June 2 from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Upper Merion Township Building. Make your appointment here.  Use sponsor code: Upper Merion Community.  

 

Traffic Update

- Nighttime travel restrictions are scheduled at 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM on Monday, April 28 through Friday May 2 at the interchange of U.S. Route 422 and Route 363 (Trooper Road).

- County Line Road will be closed for road construction by the VFNHP between Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Gulph Road weekdays from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, starting May 9. The weekday closure is in effect through the end of September.

The Cop Camp program begins Monday, June 16, from 9:00 AM SHARP to 1:00 PM at Heuser Park. (Address: 694 West Beidler Road) Applicants must be 11-13 years old by June 16 and provide a good conduct endorsement from their school. Sign up by calling us at 610-265-1071. Trip With Us! - Saturday 6/7
Want to see artwork by Cezanne, Matisse, Renoir, or Picasso? Join Parks and Rec on a trip to the Barnes Foundation. After the Barnes, take a stroll around the Ben Franklin Parkway or get a bite to eat at one of the restaurants near the museum. The bus departs from Philadelphia at 4:00 PM. (Transportation by school bus.)

Throw it Out!

The Public Works Department has extended its yard waste collection until Wednesday, April 30. Read all about it here

Save The Earth
Compost bins and rain barrels are on sale. This "one day only" event will be held on Saturday, May 17 from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The sale will be held at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell. More information here.

Spring Play - Live!!!  

Don't miss a very special evening of live entertainment  on Wednesday, April 30 at 7:00 PM in Freedom Hall.  The talented Jr. Friends Thespians will bring funny children's books to life. This FREE event is for families with kids ages 3 to 7. No registration required

Dr. Brandie Nemchenko will be at the library on May 1, 2014 at 7:00 PM to talk about the 6 leading causes of disability and discomfort in pregnancy. Registration Required.

 

Family Place Play

Springing A Tip! 

While landscaping can be seen throughout the township, we have one thing on our minds: your safety.  If trees and shrub planting are not carefully controlled and thoughtfully designed, they can provide hiding places for persons with criminal intent.

Everyone has one, right?  

1) 17th Annual Flea Market and Bake Sale - Saturday, April 26 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Call the UMSCC at 610-265-4715 for a table.

 

2) Every Thursday, at 10:00 AM, a financial/investment discussion group is held. If you have any questions, contact Dick McCann at 610-416-7431 or at [email protected].

 

3) Every 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, have your blood pressure checked by Lori Gnacek from Bryn Mawr Hospital/Main Line Health at the Upper Merion Senior Service Center.

 

4) AARP Drivers' Course (4 hours) will be held from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM on Monday, May 12. Sign up at the reception desk.

Traffic Update - Phase II

The bridge deck replacement project on Allendale Road, between the Court and Wills Boulevard, is progressing nicely.  The project is expected to be completed by mid-June. Please expect delays. More details here.
