Celebrating Women's History Month
Mary Elizabeth Switzer was a government administrator who had a passion for the betterment of the lives of the disabled. Her work from the 1950s-1970s opened doors to those who were disabled to gain careers in the United States in many fields of work. What to Do If You Have a Cooking Fire.
Always keep a lid nearby when you are cooking. If a small grease fire starts in a pan, first turn off the burner and do not move the pan. Then smother the flames by carefully sliding the lid over the pan. To keep the fire from restarting, leave the lid on until the pan is completely cool. Remember, never pour water on a cooking pan grease fire because you could be burned. In the event of an oven fire, turn off the heat and keep the door closed until it is cool. After a fire, the oven should be checked and/or serviced before being used again. If you have any doubt, leave your house or apartment! Close the door behind you to help contain the fire and call 9-1-1 for the fire department from a cell phone or a neighbor's telephone.
