MLK Day of Service
A day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held on Monday, January 20 on 722 N. Broad Street. The bus departs from the Upper Merion Township building at 9:30 AM.  Or, just meet us at Bethesda Broad Street at 10:00 AM. Please contact dbroida@gmail.com for more information. The Manor Care Nursing Home in King of Prussia is holding also holding a day of service.  Please contact Kate at katep@acupuncture.com.
 
 

Swearing In Ceremony 
Vice Chairperson Erika Spott was sworn in by Judge Jim Gallagher at the Board of Supervisors Reorganization Meeting on Monday, January 6, 2014. Mrs. Spott along stood along side her mother and husband.

STAY CONNECTED
Allendale Road Project - Begins 1/15/2014
The bridge deck will be replaced on Allendale Rd. between the Court and Wills Blvd.  Work begins Wednesday, January 15. A CTY* message will be sent on Monday, January 13. See the map here. 

Christmas Tree Recycling
The township's Christmas Tree collection service began Thursday, January 2, 2014. Submit an online request form to schedule a pick-up, or call 610-265-2606. You may also use the township's compost site to discard your Christmas tree. More info. here.

COMMUNITY 
Mulch Fundraiser
The Upper Merion Crew team's 2nd annual mulch fundraiser begins on January 13, and runs until February 3. The mulch will be delivered on March 8. More information can be found here.

 

Climb Aboard 
The year 1838 was when railroads first arrived in Upper Merion Township. Local resident and historian Michael Shaw will discuss the local railroad scene at a FREE presentation on Saturday, January 11, at 2:00 PM.  This is the first 2014 meeting of the King of Prussia Historical Society, which are held at Christ Old Swedes Church.

The funds collected from the Tricentennial Commemorative Holiday CD help support the Upper Merion Area School District's music department. Please purchase a copy for $10 at the cashier's window of the township building. Thank you.

LIBRARY

Nook Night

Get to know your NOOK better. Experts from Barnes & Noble will be here on January 27,  at 7:00 PM in the Henderson Room to give a demo on how to use your NOOK. You don't have to own a NOOK. Bring in your tablet or your iPAD with the NOOK app installed. Registration required.

 

"Sensory Friendly" Stories 

 These story times are specifically for children with disabilities and their families.  Class size is limited to ten children and activities  have been chosen and modified to help children stay focused and involved.  Story times for kids ages 3-5 will be held on Saturday mornings - January 18, February 1, 15.  For children ages 5-8, the story times will be held on Saturday mornings - March 1, 15 and  29.  Call the library at 610-265-4806 for more information or to sign up.

 

Spa and Game Night 

Middle Schoolers in 5th - 8th grade are invited to a wonderful night of relaxation and fun!  Create DIY (Do It Yourself) spa recipes and play fun games of all kinds.  Please register on-line for this story time via the library's events calendar.

 

Story Time 

Come into the library to share some fun Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes at a special story time with Miss. BJ.  Story times are on Wednesday, January 8, 9, 15 and 16 at 10:30 AM, in the Little Theatre.  The program is open to all children ages 3 or under.  Please register on-line for any of these story times via the library's events calendar.

Police are reminding all residents to be cautious when allowing any worker access into their homes or businesses. Click here.
SENIOR CENTER

Collecting Food  

UMSSC is working in conjunction with the Upper Merion Women's Club to collect food for St. John's Soup Kitchen, which will be served on January 30.  Donations of frozen turkeys should be made by Wednesday, January 15, and donations of gravy mix, stuffing, instant mashed potatoes, canned vegetables etc. by Monday, January 27.

On Wednesday, January 15 at 10:00 AM, the Upper Merion Senior Service Center will hold its General Membership Meeting.  

 

Mah-Jongg, Anyone?

If anyone is interested in playing Mah-Jongg, we play every Monday at 10:00 AM. All level players are welcome. Come in at 9:30 AM if you are interested in learning Mah-Jongg.  

 

Check Your Pressure  

Have your blood pressure checked on every 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 10:00 AM to noon. Nurse Lori Gnacek from Bryn Mawr Hospital/Main Line Health will be at the Upper Merion Senior Service Center and will make you feel very comfortable.  

ADMINISTRATION

The Public Information Office is pleased to announce that Township Manager David G. Kraynik received the :Credentialed Manager" designation from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). What does that mean? Click here.

Need Assistance?

Applications are now being accepted by the Board of Community Assistance for charitable monetary contributions from the Valley Forge Casino Resort (VFCR).  The funds are given to the township and then in turn dispersed to organizations that provide a service that addresses a community need. Scholarship applications for students who have shown a commitment to public service are also being accepted. (You must be a UMHS senior on track to graduate) Click here for an application. 

 

BCA Application Deadline

The application deadline for the Board of Community Assistance is March 15, 2014. The BCA will review all applications and announce its decision by June 1, 2014.
