SNOW EMERGENCY ALERT
Please Be Advised
The township has declared a snow emergency as of 4:00 PM, Thursday, January 2, 2014 until 4:00 PM Friday, January 3, 2014. Please remove all vehicles from snow emergency routes and cul-de-sacs. All cars should be parked in your driveway.
  

Who's Closed?

Due to the pending inclement weather, the library will be closed  Friday, January 3. The Parks and Recreation Department has  cancelled all Friday activities. 

Leaf Collection
Public Works is suspending all leaf collections until they have improved all road conditions caused by the snow storm. Please continue to view the website for the latest updates.

COMMUNITY 
Singing Praises  
The funds collected from the Tricentennial Commemorative Holiday CD are continuing to come in but more support is needed. Please purchase a copy for $10 at the cashier's window of the township building; the Upper Merion Music Department continues to sing your praises for your contribution. More details can be found here , along with the last of the commemorative items being sold.  

 

MLK Day of Service
A day of service in honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is on Monday, January 20 on 722 N. Broad Street. The bus departs from the Upper Merion Township building at 9:30 AM.  Or, just meet us at Bethesda Broad Street at 10:00 AM. Please contact dbroida@gmail.com for more information. The Manor Care Nursing Home in King of Prussia is holding a day of service.  Please contact Kate at katep@acupuncture.com
 
Bridge Project
Traffic will be impacted as the Allendale Road Bridge project gets underway this month. The Public Information Office will keep you on the move. Please ask your neighbors, friends and familly to subscribe to the e-newsletter or Like Us on Facebook to get the latest updates.

LIBRARY

Library Closed

Due to the inclement weather, the library will be closed Friday, January 3. Please call 610-265-4805 or check the website for hours on Saturday.

 

Adult Reading 

This adult reading program is asking that you read and write a brief review of any adult or young adult book, video, music CD, Playaway or videogame to win prizes! Register from our home page.

 

Clear The Clutter

Meet Darla DeMorrow and allow her to help you start the New Year off right. She will suggestions on clearing your clutter at home or at the office. The program will be on  Monday, January 13 at 7:00 PM in the Henderson room. Registration is required.

 

Story Time 

Come into the library to share some fun Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes at a special story time with Miss. BJ.  Story times are on Wednesday, January 8, 9, 15 and 16 at 10:30 AM, in the Little Theatre.  The program is open to all children ages 3 or under.  Please register on-line for any of these story times via the library's events calendar.

 

Focused On You 

We are offering story times designed especially for children who have a disability that inhibits them from focusing. We have limited this special program to ten children. The activities include: storytelling, fingerplays, music and other specially chosen activities.  Story times for kids ages 3-5 will be held on Saturdays January 18, February 1, and February 15.  Story times for children  5 - 8 will be held on Saturdays March 1, March 15 and March 29.  Call the library at (610) 265-4806 to sign up.

SENIOR CENTER

Friday Flicks

The Center will once again Friday Flicks.  The January film is "The English Teacher. " Join us Call the UMSCC for the time.
The cost for the movie is $2 or add pizza for only $3 more. ($5 total)  
  

Ready To Zumba

A free Zumba class will be offered at 12:00 PM on Monday, January 6. Zumba Gold session runs January 13, and 27, February 3, 10, 24 and March 3, 10, 17 and 24. No class on MLK Day (January 20) and on President's Day (February 17) Sign up at the Parks and Recreation Department. UM Residents: $20 - Non-UM Residents: $30.

  

The Eyes Have It 

On Monday, January 6 at 2 PM, will host a presentation by Mark F. Pyfer, MD., a board certified ophthalmologist. Dr. Pyfer will review eye health issues that affect those over 65 years of age, and highlight new technologies for diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.               

 

ADMINISTRATION

Need Assistance?

Applications are now being accepted by the Board of Community Assistance for charitable monetary contributions from the Valley Forge Casino Resort (VFCR).  The funds are given to the township and then in turn dispersed to organizations that provide a service that addresses a community need. Scholarship applications for students who have shown a commitment to public service are also being accepted. (You must be a UMHS senior on track to graduate) Click here for an application. 

 

BCA Application Deadline

The application deadline for the Board of Community Assistance is March 15, 2014. The BCA will review all applications and announce its decision by June 1, 2014.
