Bringing Peace Corps to Capitol Hill - Success after NPCA's 12th Annual National Day of Action!
|
During our 12th annual National Day of Action on March 3, more than 130 advocates went to Capitol Hill and held nearly 200 meetings with key decision makers in Congress.
They expressed why the world needs Peace Corps now more than ever. They shared their stories and the impact of our community, both at home and abroad. Congress listened. And then they responded.
We are proud to report a new record: 195 members of the House and Senate signed "Dear Colleague" letters to support an increased budget for the Peace Corps in the coming fiscal year.
This is why the Day of Action - and the ongoing advocacy efforts of our community across the country through emails, phone calls or meetings in district offices - is so crucial. But, it doesn't end here! There is much more to do to ensure Congress supports funding and reforms for Peace Corps; it won't happen without you!
Congress needs to hear from us. Through NPCA's new online Action Center, you can send messages directly to your representatives on issues at the forefront of the Peace Corps community. If your representative signed the letter, take a moment right now to visit the Action Center and send a message of thanks.

#IgnitePeaceCorps - Join the Challenge!
|
The Peace Corps community has a unique opportunity to fund a documentary about the Peace Corps. A Towering Task is a rallying call to ignite the Peace Corps community, to unite and tell Peace Corps' story - its promise, stumbles, and profound impact as a movement at home and abroad.
A Towering Task features candid insights from historians, journalists, policymakers and, of course, many members of our Peace Corps community confronting Peace Corps' past, identifying its core values, and charting a course that makes Peace Corps relevant in the 21st century.
There may not be a more important time than now to ensure that our voices and stories are shared not just with each other, but our country and the world. Make a tax-deductible contribution today and #IgnitePeaceCorps by sharing your Peace Corps story on Facebook.
In addition to supporting the final production of the film, funds will also support the core initiatives of the NPCA. A Towering Task Director & Producer Alana DeJoseph is generously sharing proceeds from the #IgnitePeaceCorps with the NPCA Community Fund to support programs increasing the Peace Corps community's development impact.

Deadline is April 30: Nominate an RPCV for the Shriver Award!
|
Each year, the NPCA honors RPCVs who continue to make a sustained and distinguished contribution to humanitarian causes at home or abroad or are innovative social entrepreneurs whose actions will bring about significant long-term change.
The Sargent Shriver Award for Distinguished Humanitarian Service award was named to recognize the tremendous contributions of the first Peace Corps Director, Sargent Shriver, in the founding and development of the Peace Corps. The 2015 recipient of the Shriver Award was Ralph Bolton, founder of The Chijnaya Foundation, a nonprofit organization that addresses the needs of poor communities in Southern Peru. We know that those 27 months in Peace Corps are only the beginning. Help us recognize the outstanding individuals within our community who have gone on to dedicate their lives to service. Nominate someone today. Deadline is April 30, 2016.
