Advocacy Photo of the Month

After travelling to Washington in June for Capitol Hill lobbying with her friend Berhane Daba (this year's Harris Wofford Global Citizen award winner), Ethiopia RPCV Mary Myers-Bruckenstein got the chance to share Berhane's amazing story with her Congressman, Lee Zeldin .

District Meetings Update
NPCA advocates are on the verge of holding the most meetings ever during our annual district meetings initiative during August and September.
In Mississippi, Advocacy Coordinator Carley Lovorn (l) and fellow Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Hannah Maharrey met with one of the newest members of Congress, Trent Kelly, to introduce him to Peace Corps issues in a meeting Lovorn described as a good relationship building meeting.

Nearly 40 meetings have been held, and with at least ten more meetings scheduled for later this month, we are grateful to all participants who have raised the importance of increased Peace Corps funding, joining the Peace Corps Caucus, and more!

Meet Your Advocacy Coordinator!
Across the country, more than 35 dedicated
advocates have stepped up to serve as NPCA Advocacy Coordinators for their state or region.

Is there an Advocacy Coordinator near you?  If so, reach out to them to make sure they know of you and your interest in Peace Corps and global issues advocacy.

Save the Date! Peace Corps Connect

Save the date! Peace Corps Connect 2016, in conjunction with the Peace Corps' 55th anniversary, will be held in Washington, DC from September 22-25, 2016. The conference itself will take place on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 23-24) and other related activities are expected in the days surrounding the conference.

For advocates, plan to be with us for a major Capitol Hill Advocacy Day on Thursday, September 22, 2016, 55 years to the day when the Peace Corps Act was signed into law. Our advocacy activities will include an orientation and prep session on the evening of September 21st.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks and months for registration and other details.

NPCA Advocacy is On the Road!

A great gathering earlier this week of the Northern Ohio Returned Volunteer Association, which hosted NPCA President Glenn Blumhorst and Advocacy Fellow JM Ascienzo for a discussion that included the importance of advocacy as one tool in the "bringing the world home" toolkit!

Stops in Iowa and Minnesota will conclude Glenn and JM's Upper Midwest tour.

Meanwhile, Advocacy Director Jonathan Pearson hopes to do a late fall swing through the south.  We need your support for our fall mobilization tour.  $500 in donations will ensure four critical mobilization events in South Carolina.  Every $150 after that gets us to another city...another state.

Global Issue of the Month

As Congress holds votes on the Iran Nuclear Deal, the Peace Corps Iran Association - a National Peace Corps Association affiliate group - continues to urge citizens, including and especially members of the Peace Corps community, to share their views with lawmakers.
Water Development

A key advocacy argument for increased Peace Corps funding is the ongoing service of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs). With this in mind, NPCA is partnering with the group Water Charity to support water projects around the world. Read more about one such project in Zambia.
Commemorative Competition

The design competition for a Peace Corps Commemorative is underway, and a group of finalists are expected to submit more detailed plans and outlines during October to a prestigious 12 member jury.  Read More.
In Memoriam

We remember and honor those within our community who have recently
passed away.

Travel with RPCVs

There's no better way to travel the world than with like-minded individuals who share your worldview. For those who have had that experience through NPCA's Next Step Travel program, the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive!
Peace Corps Store

The coming of autumn provides multiple opportunities for Peace Corps apparel.  Purchase that extra end-of-summer tee-shirt, or think ahead to the coming autumn chill.  Either way, visit the NPCA store today!
