Start Planning District Office Meetings!
|
If you share the belief that "All politics is local", there is nothing more local than meeting with your elected representatives right in your own backyard!
That's why the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) is gearing up for our 5th annual District Meeting Days initiative!
Recent decisions by the Senate and House Appropriations Committees (see below) point to the critical need to continue building a growing, consistent constituent voice to help the Peace Corps be the best it can be!
It all starts with you contacting us and saying "I want to organize a district meeting!"

Awareness Day Launch
At Peace Corps Connect - Berkeley, approximately forty people attended a panel discussion on challenges faced by many RPCVs who come home with injuries or illnesses stemming from their service.
In Jacksonville, an enlightening discussion on health challenges was described as a "home run" by its organizer.
In Minneapolis, a dozen people participated in a health justice discussion, including one individual who traveled an hour-and-a-half to take part.
These events and more comprised the first-ever Health Justice Awareness Day, designed to increase understanding and seek out solutions to the many health-related issues for members of the Peace Corps community that we can improve.

Level Funding Recommended
|
Both the Senate and House Appropriations Committees are recommending $379.5 million - level funding - for the Peace Corps for Fiscal Year 2016, rejecting President Obama's request of $410 million.
On a party line vote, the Senate Appropriations Committee rejected an amendment proposed by Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) to include the President's request for an increase in funding for the Peace Corps, as well as funding increases for other international affairs programs.
