Peace Corps Commemorative Site Selection Underway

The effort to move the proposed Peace Corps Commemorative in our nation's capital from concept to reality is a long, multi-step process that includes a number of periods of review and comment.

The next key step? Selecting a site for the commemorative. A recent public hearing provided an overview of possible sites, which has been narrowed down to four locations...

Talking Peace Corps Across Pennsylvania

This NPCA advocacy workshop in Harrisburg was one of three such workshops held over the past two weeks in Pennsylvania as part of an eleven-day, twelve-city swing through the Keystone State.  Thanks to everyone who turned out to connect with NPCA Advocacy Director Jonathan Pearson to learn more about Peace Corps policy issues and plans in the coming months...

Earlier this year, our community helped make a miracle happen for RPCV Norman Sapoznik(pictured right) by facilitating a donor match for a kidney transplant. Can we help make it happen again?

A Venezuela RPCV and longtime member of the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) desperately needs a kidney. He is on the transplant waiting list for a cadaver kidney but the list is several years long. Too long. He served in Venezuela in the 1960s and has since served us well on the Boston RPCV Board, the national NPCA Board, and currently on the Emeriti Board...

New York City Ebola Fundraiser: A Big Hit!

She's not a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and, prior to organizing the successful November 17 Ebola Relief Fundraiser at Toshi's Penthouse in New York City, had no real connection to the NPCA.

Next Step Travel: Just Returned from Guatemala; Thailand

Seven U.S. travelers, including four Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs), recently returned from the experience of a lifetime: 14 days of service, culture, and adventure in Guatemala. The trip was part of our Next Step Travel program, in which travelers immerse themselves for two weeks in either Guatemala, Thailand, or the Dominican Republic.

Meanwhile, ten travelers just got back from Thailand, where they taught English to school children, experienced Thai culture, and took part in the magical Loi Krathong festival of lights and lanterns.

The program allows RPCVs to continue and enhance their involvement in the Peace Corps community as well as allow those who haven't (yet) served in the Peace Corps to get a taste of the experience.

SPEA's unique dual master's degree in public affairs and environmental science is helping me train as a scientist incorporating a full appreciation for the related policy implications and context.
