NPCA, Peace Corps Sign First Ever Long-term Agreement

At Peace Corps Connect - Nashville, Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet and National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) President Glenn Blumhorst signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen mutually the organizations' cooperation in support of Peace Corps' mission and the Peace Corps community. It is the first such agreement in their history.

The two organizations will work to implement initiatives that promote a better understanding among Americans of other people and cultures around the world and educate the public on Peace Corps programs and service opportunities.

Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Donates Kidney to Fellow Volunteer

Remember Norman Sapoznik? The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who needed a kidney back in November? Well thanks to this newsletter, he found a match -- a fellow Malaysia RPCV!

Whether it's teaching students in Kulai, Malaysia or Brooklyn, New York or, as Anne McAvoy demonstrated, donating your kidney to a complete stranger, being a Peace Corps Volunteer inspires a lifetime of service.

Anne and Norman both served in Malaysia from 1967-1969. However, their paths didn't cross until recently. It's a great story!

A Peace Corps Connect - Nashville Round Up

In case you hadn't heard, Peace Corps Connect - Nashville was awesome!

From the exhibits by Peace Corps partners and supporters, to the wonderful to the heart-melting melodies of Emmylou Harris.  From thought-provoking great RPCV ideas, to the welcoming, heart-filled remarks from newly sworn in Peace Corps Director, Carrie Hessler-Radelet ... every moment of #PCCNASH was more rewarding than expected.

Check out our round up blog post, with links to photos from all three days, and stay tuned for even more blog posts on individual elements in the coming weeks.

"This Is Only the Beginning:" A Very Peace Corps Homecoming

Eva Canan was back home from Peace Corps for only 19 hours before she jumped in to volunteer at NPCA's Peace Corps Connect - Nashville conference!

While there, she met six other Morocco RPCVs whose services spanned every single decade -- including one who served exactly 50 years before she did -- and got some wise words of advice on the reentry process ...

RPCV Groups Tackle Generational Differences

At Peace Corps Connect - Nashville last month, leaders of RPCV member groups gathered together in the Group Leaders Forum to learn how generational issues impact their work, and to drill down on group management best practices and challenges. We asked Kate Schachter (Ghana 2004-2007), RPCVs of Wisconsin-Madison -- with input from Will Spargur (Swaziland 1992-1995), Northern California PCA -- to provide a summary...

Indiana University MPA

"I'm an RPCV who served in El Salvador. SPEA's unique dual master's degree in public affairs and environmental science is helping me train as a scientist incorporating a full appreciation for the related policy implications and context. Receiving a Fulbright Grant for the coming year will enable me to continue researching the effects of air pollution on children's health in Santiago, Chile."
