You've Been Busy...It Shows!
Our thanks and appreciation to all NPCA Advocates who took time over an intensified six week period of outreach to contact Members of Congress. You do make a difference! And, here's the proof.
Peace Corps Funding: You did it again! The 2014 congressional "Dear Colleague" letters urging strong future funding for the Peace Corps reached a record number of signatures again! At least 177 lawmakers signed these letters, a nearly 11 percent increase over the 160 signatures collected in 2012. While we await final news on the Senate letter, at least 26 Senators have signed. Meanwhile, a new record was achieved in the House, as a record 151 Representatives signed the House letter, requesting a return to $400 million for the Peace Corps in Fiscal Year 2015.
Puzey Murder Investigation: NPCA advocates also assisted the family and friends of Kate Puzey, who spearheaded a letter urging federal authorities to send an expert team to Benin to assist in the investigation into the murder of Puzey more than five years ago. A strong bipartisan group of 188 Senators and Congressmen/women signed this letter.

"Posh Corps" Looks at Modern Day Peace Corps Image
As the world as a whole moves to a higher standard of living - a clean well here, a supermarket there, maybe another luxury hotel in the capital - Peace Corps supporters and critics alike have begun to adopt the term "Posh Corps." There is a no doubt that many of the more recently serving Volunteers have access to a wider range of amenities, but is it fair to rebrand the Peace Corps as Posh Corps?
Filmmaker Alan Toth (South Africa 2011-2012) confronted this question by returning to his former country of service, accompanied by a video camera and a commitment to recording the day-to-day lives of currently serving Volunteers.

Museum Exhibit Aims to Fulfill Third Goal
In light of their upcoming exhibition, NPCA would like to highlight our member group The Committee for a Museum of the Peace Corps Experience (CMPCE). CMPCE was created in the Portland area in 1999 and continues to work towards its ultimate goal: establishing a permanent facility to house Peace Corps stories.
Since 2001, CMPCE has also partnered with various organizations to display temporary Peace Corps exhibits. The 2014 exhibit "Peace Corps: More Than 50 Years of Service" will run from March 25 - May 8, 2014 at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, OR.
