New Curriculum Addresses a Pressing Global Issue: The Basic Education Crisis

> posted by request:

The Peace Corps Nigeria Alumni Foundation (PCNAF) is committed to serving as a catalyst for enhancing public awareness in the U.S. about the critical need to expand access to quality education for more than 61 million primary school-age children and 71 million adolescents in developing countries that are not in school. A key component of PCNAF's mission is providing support to teachers that want to use the basic education crisis as a vehicle for helping students understand what global interdependence really means, and instill in them a sense of global responsibility.

A high school social studies teacher collaborated with PCNAF to develop and test an instructional unit focusing on the basic education crisis and how it impacts our lives here in America. The new curriculum is designed to help students examine some of the economic, political and social ties that bind the U.S. to the Third World. The unit is now available online for other teachers to use. To view the unit, visit the Teacher's Corner on PCNAF's website and select the Featured Lesson.

Peacebuilding Toolkit for Educators

>  Posted by request:

The Peacebuilding Toolkit for Educators, the curriculum guide of the Global Peacebuilding Center, U.S. Institute of Peace, is now available in English, Spanish, French and Arabic and on handy thumb-drives that make it much more portable! It's also online in those new languages at:  www.buildingpeace.org/toolkit

The Toolkit was developed by and for educators, and the translations of the content into new languages will--we hope--enable a broader network of teachers to bring peacebuilding into classrooms around the world.
