Experiencing A Different Dominican Republic
Five more Next Step Travel trips in 2013
Helping a school construction project. Interacting with Volunteers and learning about today's Peace Corps. Relaxing on the beach. Sliding down waterfalls. Learning about the unique culture, geography and history of the Dominican Republic.
Over the holidays, National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) board member Sharon Keld did it all! She traveled to the Dominican Republic as NPCA's host on our most recent Next Step Travel trip. She had a fantastic time on this family-friendly, multi-generational service vacation that included several RPCVs in the mix.
But see for yourself. Check out the photos we posted to Facebook and read the five latest posts to our Service blog. We have five more trips planned this year to the Dominican Republic and Guatemala. Resolve to travel with a purpose -- and your fellow RPCVs -- in 2013.

Why We Support the NPCA: The Dixons
The Dixons are a Peace Corps family -- and donors to the National Peace Corps Association. For Kay Gillies Dixon (Colombia 1962-64) and Kevin Dixon (Colombia 1962-64), it boils down to two things: advocacy and networking.
"Being Peace Corps Volunteers in its very early years, we knew we viewed the world through a different lens. The spirit of Peace Corps and volunteerism are part of who we are. Two of our daughters completed Peace Corps service and our other two daughters also lead meaningful lives of volunteering and service to their communities...."

Kyrgyzstan RPCVs Create Corey Hilber Memorial Scholarship Fund
In response to the tragic, early death on December 15, 2012 of Corey James Hilber (Kyrgyzstan 2009-11), the Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) community from Kyrgyzstan has created a memorial scholarship fund to honor Corey's memory in the same way that he lived his life: by helping other people, and paying opportunity forward into the world.
The response to the scholarship fund has been incredible so far, raising over $12,000 in one month, or about 57% of the project goal. The success of the project now depends on the support extended RPCV community.
"Corey was a magnet for the Volunteers in Talas," stated Seth Fearey, the current Country Director for Peace Corps Kyrgyzstan. "He was a talented trainer and organizer. The staff here is deeply saddened...."
