Student volunteers needed!

The Welcome Center is looking for student volunteers to assist with the August "back-to-school" rush! Volunteers will help students locate their classrooms, assist with InSite Portal/WebAdvisor, which will make the transition into the new semester easier.

 Benefits include:

*  Volunteer certificates and/or gift bags

*  First consideration for paid student ambassador positions

*  Looks great on your resume

All volunteers must attend one mandatory orientation session: Tuesday, August 12, 2 p.m. OR Wednesday, August 13, 1:30 p.m. Please complete the volunteer form to let us know the hours you wish to volunteer and the orientation you will be attending. Register to vote!

It only takes a minute to register to vote online. And with Election Day on November 4, the last day to register to vote is Monday, October 20. 

Don't delay! Register to vote now at  CAstudentvote.org.

 

Pardon our dust!

As part of the ongoing Commons Project the construction zone will soon be changing and there will be new alternate pedestrian routes for the campus around the construction fencing. Please watch for large vehicles in construction access areas.


For accessible entry (ADA) - please park or drop off in lots 7 or 1. If you need mobility assistance from the lot 8 bus stop to a building on campus, contact Laurence Orme at 925-969-2173. 
 

Book Center announcements

Summer rental books must be returned by July 28 to avoid penalties. Return rental books inside the store, not at the buy back window.

Summer buy back: July 23-24 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.

 

Stay connected with DVC WiFi

Here are step by step instructions for obtaining wireless internet connection on the DVC campus. You will need your inSite Portal ID and password. 

Create your roadmap to success! 

Beginning fall 2014, all community college students in California are required to have an education plan. We have developed an online planning tool to help you create the best plan to meet your academic goals. You can track your progress in your chosen program, as well as plan, schedule, and register for classes. You can even make an appointment with a counselor, all from your education plan. Create your roadmap now! 

Career, Employment, and Transfer Center

Got questions? Stop by the Career, Employment and Transfer Center this summer for answers to your career, employment and transfer questions on Wednesdays or Thursdays, 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Be sure to check the DVC Job Board for jobs, internships and volunteer opportunities. Registration is simple and access is immediate.

Get a head start! Fall 2015 transfer applicants can start filling out the UC transfer application beginning August 1, 2014. The application submission dates are November 1 through November 30, 2014.
 
UC fall 2015 transfer applicants get ready to submit your Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) application this September!  

Fall 2014 EOPS/CARE new student applications available NOW!

EOPS/CARE fall 2014 application packets are available in the EOPS/CARE Office in the Student Services Center, Room 127. If you are eligible for EOPS, you will be able to receive counseling, book vouchers, one-on-one tutoring, priority registration, special events and activities, four-year college transfer assistance, and much more! Find out if you're eligible by picking up and completing an application. The application deadline is Friday, August 29.  

CalWORKs announcements

If you are receiving TANF/county cash aid, you may be eligible for DVC's CalWORKs program. CalWORKs orientations for fall 2014 begin July 23, 10 -11:30 a.m. and Thursday, July 24, 1-2:30 p.m. Choose your date early and contact the CalWORKs Office with your selection. 
Financial aid announcements

2014-15 FAFSA now available!

If you plan to enroll for the 2014-15 academic year, the 2014-15 FAFSA is now available. For more information about all financial aid programs please visit DVC Financial Aid.

 

Summer Pell Grant awards

Students who have been awarded the Pell Grant for the 2013-14 academic year and have NOT received full-time (12+ units) disbursements for both semesters may be eligible for funds during the summer 2014 semester. Students should meet with a financial aid coordinator to determine their eligibility for the summer 2014 Pell Grant.

 

Financial aid drop-in and document submission Students who wish to see a financial aid coordinator for general inquiries about their 2013-14 and/or 2014-15 financial aid file, or to submit documents may do so through a drop-in visit. Specific information regarding a student's financial aid cannot be provided over the phone. 

Summer drop-in hours: Monday - Wednesday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and closed on Thursdays. 

Student IDs

Students visiting the Financial Aid Office are required to show picture ID when checking in at the window. Preferred form of identification is a Diablo Valley College student ID card, which can be obtained through the Associated Students Office (ASO) in the Margaret Lesher Building or the DVC library. Students must take a picture ID and a copy of their current class schedule to ASO to obtain a DVC Student ID card. The Financial Aid Office will also accept state-issued identification cards, a driver's license, or a U.S. passport as identification. 

California Dream Act

2014-15 California Dream Act applications

Visit our 
website for links and valuable information about the California Dream Act. You must be classified as an AB540 student with the Admissions and Records Office to qualify for a Board of Governor's Fee Waiver through the California Dream Act application. The Financial Aid Office will be having financial aid workshops in March and April if you need additional help applying. If you have questions regarding your application status or need assistance, please visit the Financial Aid Office to meet with a financial aid coordinator.

A loud siren will be heard throughout the DVC campus the 

first Wednesday of every month at 11 a.m. This will be a test of our Campus Alert System. There is nothing you need to do during a siren test. 


In the event of an actual emergency or crisis situation, the siren sound will continue for three minutes. Students and all campus personnel will be instructed to Shelter, Shut, and Listen.

If you are faced with a potentially violent or dangerous situation on campus:

 

First move to a safe location and then immediately contact campus police at:
ext. 23000 from a campus phone, or 925-680-7000 from your cell phone. (Calling 911 from a cell phone will result in an unnecessary delay.)

Our campus police are highly trained to deal with a wide variety of situations involving students and visitors on campus.

Students, faculty and staff can call 925-229-6464 to provide information without having to leave any personal information.
