SEPTEMBER 2016
In Their Own Words: Matt and Ashely
In Their Own Words: Matt and Ashley Dunn

Message from the President
Lauren Genkinger, President & Founder

I have two special messages for you this month -- one about fosters and one about the TD11s. First, let's talk about FOSTERS. They are one of the most important volunteer roles at AGA. Fosters provide temporary homes for our precious orphans, giving them love, exercise and attention.

We are in need of new foster families and the best way you can hear about what being a foster means is to listen to fosters themselves tell you about it. Watch Matt and Ashley Dunn share their story about being an AGA foster family. And then please consider becoming a foster for us! We need fosters for Turkey Dogs and for our American dogs.

And, now for the big news.  The TD11s are coming this month. They will be known as -- what else, but, the College Football Dogs! Here's their plane and stay tuned this month for more announcements about the arrival of these 18 Golden Retrievers.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 23

Make sure Sunday, October 23, is on your calendar to bring your golden(s) and your family for a fun-filled afternoon (1 pm to 4 pm) at the Field at Atlanta Athletic Club. Dog games, a DJ, training tips, kid games, silent auction, food trucks (even one for the dogs!), vendors and lots of dog stuff.

We are also planning a Turkey Dog reunion for all of our TDs -- Yasemin will be here from Turkey and will be in the Turkey Dog tent to meet all the TDs and their families.

VOLUNTEERS - If you would like to volunteer to work a shift at Goldenrama, please email our volunteer department at agaatlanta@aol.com.

SILENT AUCTION - If you have items to contribute, please contact Sue Glaskey, sue@adoptagoldenatlanta.com

BAKE SALE - We need bakers! If you'd like to contribute your specialty baking item, reach out to Carolyn Waters, Bake Sale Chair, cswaters@mindspring.com, to let her
know what you will bring and to receive packaging instructions.

Orphan of the Month
SMITTY

Smitty is a 2-year-old boy (a Golden mix but with a Golden personality!). He loves to stay busy, play and run, so he needs a very active family that will keep him exercised. Watch Smitty's video to learn more about him and what he wants in an adoptive home. And then come meet him at Sunday's Adoption Day.
SAVE THE DATE
October 13: Time to Get Woo'd

Our friends at Woo Skin Care and Cosmetics are having their 8th anniversary party on Wednesday, October 13 from 4 to 8 pm. It's a benefit for AGA. Watch for more details soon but mark your calendar now.

ASK THE VET
Have a Medical Question? Just Ask.

If you have adopted from us and are faced with a medical issue that you are unsure of how to handle, or you are not sure you are getting the best advice/diagnosis possible from your vet, please give us a call at 404-364-5377. Whether it's a re-occurring skin or ear infection, a digestive issue or a serious medical diagnosis, we are here to share our experience with you.
We have many excellent veterinary specialists that we rely on and who have performed "miracles" on some of our dogs (even some of our own personal dogs). Our relationship with you does not end when you adopt from us, we are here to support you with advice and direction.

ASK THE TRAINER
A Great Resource

This month we want to share a resource with you! Our partners at Pet Lodge Pet Resort have a monthly newsletter that you might want to subscribe to.  The Pet Lodge Pet Resort newsletter often contains great training tips and other cool information -- such as -- did you know you can take your dog out for a 30 minute swim for $10? What fun is that? Check it out.

SOLID GOLD
A Story of Good Nutrition

Turkey Dog Valentine
Turkey Dog Valentine
TD6 Valentine got a real sweetheart of a deal when he arrived in Atlanta from Turkey. He was adopted by Lauren Dyak and Alex Masten. And no more eating scraps and things he could find in the forest!

Watch Valentine's video and see what good nutrition can do -- not only for Turkey Dogs -- but for all dogs.

Thank you, SOLID GOLD for providing good nutrition for all of our orphans!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Application Processors
We are looking for several people to join the Applications Team which processes incoming applications from people wishing to adopt one of our dogs.  Each team member is assigned a New Application to process. This involves conducting a telephone interview to clarify any questions on the application, arranging for a homecheck from our database, updating the application profile, and keeping contact with the applicant until they adopt a dog.  Once the applicant has bee n approved, the processor becomes the main contact for the
applicant. A formal training class will be conducted at the end of
September.

Philanthropy Team Writers
Our Philanthropy team is looking for two or three people who can help prepare, edit, and submit various proposals and grants in response to requests for grant money available to animal rescue groups.  There is an extensive list of previously-prepared grant applications written over the past few years.    The volunteer must be a good writer and feel comfortable in being able to modify standardized proposal formats to meet the requirements of the current requested grant proposal.  Some grants require as little as three hours and some could take up to 10 to 15 hours including gathering the required information.  This volunteer does not need grant writing experience but great writing, research, and editing skills.

If you are interested, fill out our Volunteer Application and someone will be in touch.
