Golf? Tennis?
Join Us for the Golden Open on June 6

If you are a golfer or play tennis, you'll want to join us on Monday, June 6, at Marietta Country Club in Kennesaw for a fun-filled day at the Golden Open - and you'll help us save golden retrievers at the same time.

Check out Tournament Information for player and sponsorship registration, start times and everything you need to know about the day.

Thanks to sponsors Slalom, Solid Gold and WSB-TV, and to the station's Sports Director Zach Klein who is guest golfer and emcee for the Golden Open Golf Tournament.

Orphan of the Month for May
Derby is our Orphan of the Month. He's a handsome four-year-old boy who was tied outside most of his life and AGA is helping him look for a better life and someone to love. Watch this video to learn more about Derby and come meet him at Adoption Day on Sunday!

TDs: Celebrating One Year
Just one year ago this week we welcomed the first 36 Golden Retrievers from Istanbul, Turkey, to America. Since then, AGA has brought 177 Goldens to Atlanta and has changed their lives forever. They are now living the Golden life!

We have also helped 30 other Golden Retriever rescues across the country and one in Canada to bring in TDs of their own. Total number of TDs who have come to America to AGA and other rescues is nearly 450.

AGA will continue to bring in Golden Retrievers from Istanbul as long as we have the resources to do so. Thanks to all of our donors, volunteers and fosters who help make this effort possible. As a volunteer organization, we are so proud to be able to make such a difference in these Golden Retrievers' lives.

ASK THE VET
A First Aid Kit for Your Dog
We never know when or where an accident might occur that your dog needs immediate care. Chances are your house is pretty well supplied with emergency items for humans, but what about for your dog? And are there any emergency supplies in your car?
Check out the suggested items for a Pet Emergency Kit and start working on putting it together. When the time comes that you need it, you'll be glad you did!

ASK THE TRAINER
A Pushy Dog: Are You Reinforcing Behavior?
Dogs are smart - they do what works for them. And quite often a behavior that we are attempting to change is actually happening because we are inadvertently reinforcing it.  Begging, jumping and pawing are just a few of the behaviors that can be fixed when we change our own behavior. aren't?  Follow these tips to turn that behavior around.

RECENT ADOPTIONS

Congratulations to all of our pups who found their forever homes in April.

Bunny, Cooper Yellow Lab, Daisy Beagle, Garland, Gumdrop, Peep, Peter Rabbit, Princess, Rowdy, Sadie, Socks and Chunk all found homes last month.

Watch our Golden Gala video
Last month's Golden Gala was the best Golden party ever. It's our major fundraising event of the year, and thanks to donors, sponsors and attendees, we raised 20 percent more than last year!

GALA 2016
GALA 2016 - Miracles Do Happen

Without a doubt the most heartwarming part of the Gala is our Miracles Do Happen video -- it's about three Golden Retrievers and it shows what we do. Don't miss it. And if you've already seen it, you probably want to watch it again. Just a caution -- it's a tissue-alert video!
Volunteers Needed!
AGA continues to grow and we need volunteers in several areas right now. We are looking for foster homes -- both short-term and regular foster homes. We also need volunteers to help with processing applications; matching orphans to applicants; coordinating dogs going to foster; and to assist with special computer projects.
If you are interested, fill out our Volunteer Application and someone will be in touch.
Did You Know Your Dog Hates To Be Hugged?
Hugging your dog raises its stress and anxiety levels. Humans like hugging, but dogs don't react the same way as we do.  Results from a study recently published in Psychology Today say hugging a dog actually stressed the canine out, which can in some cases can cause the animal to bite. According to the study more than 80 percent of dogs show signs of stress when being hugged -- so it's no surprise dog bites are
high among human/canine embraces.
