The Seasons Go Round & Round
| "And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down We're captive on the carousel of time We can't return we can only look Behind from where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game" from Joni Mitchell (The Circle Game)
It seems the trees were reading the calendar this year -- the moment it was October, the leaves started to change. The weather has really been up and down this month. There were a few summer-like days (including when we spent a few days at the bed & breakfast in Barnaget Light mid-month). There's a chance of flurries tomorrow (after all, it will be November). But for the second year in a row, the weather news is that there's no weather news!! Yay!! Hard to believe that it's been two years since Hurricane Sandy (and, in spite of Governor "Sit Down & Shut Up" and his all is well pronouncement, there are still a lot of people and businesses hurting.) So, whether you're dragging your feet to try to slow the circle down or eagerly looking forward to it's next spin, enjoy Fall!

Me & Technology
| Meet the new laptop -- a Dell Inspiron, 11.1" screen, Windows 8.1. This past summer I decided I needed a new cellphone and a new laptop. Actually, it was probably a year ago when I first thought about replacing my phone and netbook, but it wasn't until the summer that I got serious. This led to much on-line research, store visits, and much dithering on my part. (Will tell you about my new MotoX phone next month.)
My Acer netbook is over 5 years old and operating Windows XP. I really needed to replace it but I was resisting 8.1. I wanted something small and light for taking to school and on trips as I have my desktop (with Windows 7) at home. I didn't want a Chrome book (the replacement for the netbooks) and many of the lightweight laptops cost over a $1000, which is more than my desktop cost. Then I took a fieldtrip to the Microsoft store at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus. I met a really great Tech Advisor (if you go, look for Christian van Lidth de Jeude) who answered all of my silly questions. And the next thing I knew I was the owner of this little Dell. Because I'm an adjunct professor at FDU I was able to get the University edition of Office 365 (Office 2013). Slowly but surely I'm getting used to the changes -- and there are a lot of fun things (including the touch screen).

Book of the Month ... Books | Well, with all that was going on in September and October, I haven't read any business books.
There is a new Donna Andrews book -- The Nightingale Before Christmas. I just got it, but I'm trying to save it for one of our trips.
I'm still waiting to finish Exodus. Just finished an interesting book, The Saturday Wife by Naomi Ragen. It is meant to be a satire about life among the Modern Orthodox Jews -- so if you do decide to read, keep tongue firmly implanted in cheek.
There are still some business books beckoning me. I will try reading at least one before the next e-Letter comes out so I can report on it.
Let me know if you've read anything good lately -- just for fun or for business -- and I'll share in the next e-Letter.
