Summer $1.00 SALE, this week is:
2012 Trinchero, Sauvignon Blanc, Mary's Vineyard, Napa Valley, Winery Retail; $24.00, our price is $23.00 and get the second bottle for $1.00:
winemaker comments: "Mary's Vineyard is a warm place to grow aromatic whites and I have been pleased with the balance of ripe fruit and acidity in the grapes from this vineyard. The wine is fermented entirely in stainless steel, with no oak-I like my white wines clean and refreshing. It is unmistakably Sauvignon Blanc with subtle hints of wet limestone, yet also boasts warm Napa Valley stonefruit and tropical aromas and flavors complimented by a round mouthfeel and a refreshing citrus undercurrent in the finish." - Mario Monticelli
2006 Domaine Carneros, Le Reve, Blanc de Blancs, Sparkling Wine, 95 pts., Wine Enthusiast, Carneros, Napa Valley, Winery Retail; $99.00, our price is $99.00 and get the second bottle for $1.00
Le Rêve, which translates to "the dream" in French, is a luxury Blanc de Blancs cuvee originally inspired by Taittinger's Comtes de Champagne. Blanc de Blancs means "white of whites" or white wine made from white grapes. Eileen Crane and Claude Taittinger believe that the finest sparkling wine in the world is Blanc de Blancs made from Chardonnay grapes. These wines have greater finesse and ageability and Le Rêve is no exception. The Le Rêve Blanc de Blancs is generally 100% Chardonnay (with a small percent of Pinot Blanc in some years). Aged a full 6 years prior to release, Le Rêve drinks beautifully upon release and continues to develop for years in the cellar. Our Le Rêve Blanc de Blancs has repeatedly been rated "The Best Sparkling Wine in America." This current release is a great successor to these wines and exemplifies the best of our estate-grown chardonnay.

This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features
- 2010 Gainey Vineyard, Riesling, Santa Ynez Valley; $13.00: Sticking your nose into a glass of our 2010 Riesling is like smelling a freshly baked apple pie that's been sprinkled with cinnamon and nutmeg, with bits of pear and citrus thrown in. Relatively low in alcohol, the wine's bright, off-dry flavors are appley and zesty, with refreshing lime, spice and mineral tones enlivening the finish. This wine makes a fine accompaniment to seafood, poultry and pork dishes, as well as spicy Asian and Caribbean cuisine. Enjoy it over the next one to two years. Jeff LeBard, Winemaker
-
2010 Gainey Vineyard, Merlot, Santa Ynez Valley; winery retail $24.00, our price is $20.00: The wine is redolent of dense and brooding black cherry, dark plum and blackcurrant fruit enriched by loamy earth, dark chocolate and black tea scents. Dramatically rich and concentrated on the palate, its densely wound, dark cherry, black plum and cassis flavors are framed by ripe, round tannins and savory oak tones. Boasting a remarkably long finish full of juicy dark fruit, tea-leaf spice and roasted coffee tones. Pair this luxurious, world-class Merlot with rich dishes like pork tenderloin, roast duck, grilled lamb chops and simply prepared beef.
-
2012 Belle Glos, Pinot Noir, Clark & Telephone, Santa Maria Valley; $53.00: Deep scarlet red in color, this wine leaves little to the imagination with rich, expansive aromas of blackberry, raspberry, plum and sweet baking spices like cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. The palate is similarly intense with flavors of ripe blackberries, raspberries, warm cherry pie, blueberry and fresh cranberry, perfectly balanced with velvety tannins and a smooth toasty oak finish.
-
2010 Argyle, Pinot Noir, Reserve, Willamette Valley, 90 pts., Wine Spectator; winery retail is $40.00, our price is $30.00: Aromas in these cool growing seasons are always "leap out of the glass" intense! Look for violets, spiced black cherry, and a hint of blueberry blossom. The black cherry component evolves into red cherry/currant aromas with time in the glass. The texture is immediately a surprisingly dense mouthfeel, yet light on it's feet. Pinot Noir red fruits abound throughout the palate. There's an amazing balance, where each segment of flavor from beginning, to middle, to the long finish is of equal intensity.
-
2008 Domaine Serene, Pinot Noir, Evenstad Reserve, Willamette Valley, 94 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $66.00: A true illustration of the art of blending, the Evenstad Reserve® Pinot Noir is a wonderfully complex wine that delivers an array of red fruits, caramel, baking spice, vanilla, dried flowers, and potpourri. On the palate, this elegant wine shows a harmonious balance of structure, richness and acidity with soft tannins and a clean, lingering finish. With clonal variation and site driven diversity, we are able to craft this wine to our precise and exacting standards year after year.
-
2010 Flowers, Pinot Noir, Sea View Ridge, Estate, Sonoma Coast, 98 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $79.00: A cool climate has given this wine bracing acidity and gentle-yet-persistent tannins. Its flavors of wild raspberries and cherries, with spice and mineral overtones, are delicious. There's a feral quality that expresses umami perfectly, suggesting butter-sautéed, tamari-splashed mushrooms and crisped prosciutto. The oak is powerful and present in the form of toast and sweet vanilla, but perfectly balanced with the wine's volume. For all its richness, the wine finishes bone dry. Drink this impeccable Pinot Noir now through 2020.
-
2010 Descendientes de Jose Palacios, Petalos del Bierzo, Spain, 91 pts., Wine Spectator, Top 100, 2012; $25.00: This plush red delivers black cherry, licorice, mineral and smoke flavors. Harmonious and focused, supported by well-integrated tannins and firm acidity. Not a showy wine, but has complexity and depth. Drink now through 2018. 50,000 cases made.
-
2011 Bodega Catena Zapata, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mendoza, Argentina; $20.00: Healthy crimson, clean and sophisticated. Quite complex. No excess sweetness. Dry finish. Much broader than bordeaux. Very nice wine from Argentina.
-
2011 Achaval-Ferrer, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mendoza, Argentina; $27.00: Intense, pure, full colors and young aromas. This wine completes Achaval Ferrer's vision of Malbec. Rich with luscious raspberry and macerated currant, Mendoza Malbec has dark, juicy finish. This wine is vivid and racy in character. The winery wishes to honor the insignia variety of Mendoza and to emphasize all the characteristics of this unique cepage. The work in the vineyards reinforces leaf system over root system, and emphasizes the soul of the fruit.
-
2011 Achavel-Ferrer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mendoza, Argentina, 91 pts.; $27.00: The profound relationship between the sun and the altitude of the Andes inspired us to explore other paths. The result is this Cabernet Sauvignon, with which we wish to share the expression of a mythical variety, whose echoes of freshness and seduction make it stand out for its elegance.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
