This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features
-
2012 Chateau Miraval, Rose', Cotes de Provence, 90 pts., Wine Spectator; $28.00: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have released their first wine, a 2012 Rose from their estate in Provence, Chateau Miraval. The Rose, made in a partnership with the Perrin family of Chateau Beaucastel and featuring a distinctive Champagne punt bottle, is easily the most anticipated release of a Rose ever seen.
-
2011 Kendall Jackson, Oak Free Chardonnay, Avant, California; $15.00: This refreshing Chardonnay erupts with captivating layers of fresh pineapple, bright green apple, crisp Meyer lemon, juicy pear and wildflowers. It shows refreshing acidity and sleek mineral notes which are balanced by a rounded mid-palate and a long, pure fruit finish.
-
2011 La Crema, Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast; Winery Retail is $23.00, our price is $20.00: "Perhaps our most popular release overall, the Sonoma Coast Chardonnay opens with an intriguing interplay of lively citrus and subtle toasted oak, laced with just a kiss of butterscotch. The palate is round and nutty, with flavors of yellow apple and orange adding lushness, while well-balanced acidity creates a lovely vibrancy".
-
2011 La Crema, Chardonnay, Russian River Valley, 91 pts., Connoisseur's Guide; $30.00: This wine is a true regional blend sourced from vineyards throughout the Russian River Valley. Given the overall cool conditions of this vintage, 2011 was the year for the relatively warmer vineyards near Chalk Hill to shine. They provided the rich, lush elements of baked pear and yellow apple which were balanced by the bright citrus and juicy acidity of the Santa Rosa bench vineyards. A variety of clones including Rued, 4 and Dijon added further complexity to the blend.
-
2011 La Crema, Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, 91+ pts., Parker; $40.00: Vivid, Layered and Balanced "Dense but supple, the texture of the 2011 Russian River displays the sort of fine, mature tannins that are only possible in years with extensive hang time. The nose is rich with top notes of black licorice and cola while on the palate, juicy blackberry and pie cherry are layered with cocoa and hints of molasses. The overall impression is of balance between the fresh dark fruit elements and the almost sweet spicy influences."Elizabeth Grant-Douglas, Winemaker
-
2010 Evening Land, Pinot Noir, Estate, Sta. Rita Hills, 92 pts., Parker; $43.00: Dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Aromas of black berries, black grapes, tea leaf, dried herbs and mushrooms. Exotic and savory with an enjoyable core of fresh dark berries and a soft note of citrus-flavored cranberries on the finish. The wine was significantly better the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle showing more expressive fruit and less savory aromas and flavors. Very good.
-
2010 Freestone Vineyards, Pinot Noir, Estate, Sonoma Coast, 94 pts., Parker; Winery retail is $55.00, our price is $45.00: Winemaker's notes: "This wine fills the senses with pleasing aromas of cassis, dark plum, dried herbs and earthy notes of cedar and forest floor. A silky mouth feel and lingering flavors of black cherry, allspice, wild mushrooms and black tea mingle with hints of toasty vanilla bean and Freestone's characteristic tangerine peel. Bright acidity and balanced tannins create a captivating Pinot Noir with a long, rich finish."
-
2010 Fess Parker, Syrah, Santa Barbara County, 93 pts., Wine & Spirits; Winery retail is $27.00, our price is $20.00: On the nose, this Syrah has an abundance of bold aromas including blackberry, black pepper, blueberry, graham cracker and baking spices. Bold flavors of black cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate and clove combine with smoked meat, vanilla and espresso.
-
2010 Justin, Isoceles, Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles; $70.00:Full bodied with black cherry and classic black currant fruit, complex brown spice of star anise, licorice with cocoa and herbal notes of sweet tobacco and a hint of eucalyptus. The rest is classic Bordeaux cabernet sauvignon fruit, complex spice, and mineral flavors balanced with guiding structural elements on a long, memorable finish. Drink on release or wait a dozen years, this one will be ready for you.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised.
