Spring $1.00 SALE, this week is
Brewer-Clifton and Hanzell Vineyards
- 2008 Brewer-Clifton, Chardonnay, Sta. Rita Hills, 91 pts., Parker, 90 pts., Tanzer; Was $40.00, Our Price $39.00 and get the second bottle for $1.00:
91 points Robert Parker: "The 2008 Chardonnay Santa Rita Hills has loads of lemon, honeysuckle, and citrus blossoms, yet for such a full-flavored Chardonnay, it is stunningly elegant, fresh, and crystalline. A light straw-colored, powerful wine (14.6% alcohol), it should be drunk over the next 3-5 years. " (08/10) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Nov/Dec 09: "Vivid yellow-gold. Pungent aromas of orange, marzipan and sweet butter. Musky, gently sweet and fresh in the mouth, with citrus and orchard fruit and crushed stone flavors joined by a suggestion of toasted nuts. There's a suave buttery character to this deep, open-knit wine, but tangy minerality on the finish gives it energy and lift. Seems more powerful and more approachable than the nervier 2007 version.
- 2008 Hanzell Vineyards, Chardonnay, Sebella, Sonoma Valley, 92 pts., Wine Enthusiast, Was $40.00, Our Price $39.00 and and get the second bottle for $1.00:
Hanzell says this Sebella Chardonnay is meant to drink now, while their regular Chardonnay, which is famously ageable, develops in the cellar. That's strange logic, because the wine is so close to the regular Chardonnay as to be nearly indistinguishable. It's bone dry, crisply acidic and minerally, with citrus, green apple and pear flavors.

This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features
Kosta Browne Winery
-
2011 Chardonnay, One Sixteen, Russian River Valley; $90.00: Our 2011 One Sixteen Chardonnay is sourced from six incredible vineyard sites in the Russian River Valley. Named after the Gravenstein Highway 116 which cuts through the town of Sebastopol, this wine embodies the true character of the Green Valley sub-appellation; a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sweet spot within the Russian River Valley. The 2011 vintage is comprised of El Diablo, Heintz, Searby, Ulises Valdez and Martinelli's Charles Ranch and Zio Tony Vineyards. These sites all have superb micro-climates, offering just the right amount of warmth during the day and very cool nights, which leads to intensely focused wine with generous natural acidity.
-
2011 Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast; $125.00: Our 2011 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a blend of three vineyards; Gap's Crown, Terra de Promissio and Walala. The first two are located in the southern portion of the Sonoma Coast appellation and lie directly in the path of the Petaluma Wind Gap's Pacific Ocean cooling and the maritime influence of the San Pablo Bay. The third vineyard, Walala Vineyard, is from the northwestern coastal reaches near Annapolis. The wines from the Petaluma Gap region are rich, voluptuous and structured with dark black and blue fruit, deep texture and broad structure. The wines from Walala are red fruit driven with clean earth, a slight spice, elegant structure and a complex core. We recommend drinking this wine between 2015 and 2020.
-
2011 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley; $125.00: The 2011 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a blend of vineyards which lie in cool areas throughout the Russian River Valley. This is a complex region, which in turn allows this Pinot Noir to have many layers and complexities. The wine shows a range of bright red fruits to brambly voluptuous flavors, all hallmark characteristics of the appellation. The individual lots are all unique, providing distinct aromas and flavors, and giving the blend broad complexity. We recommend drinking this wine between 2015 and 2019.
-
2011 Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands; $125.00: The Santa Lucia Highlands is one of the crown jewels of California viticulture, growing and producing some of the state's best cool climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah. The appellation encompasses more than 5,000 acres of prime vineyards, planted on the elevated terraces of the Santa Lucia mountain range. The area's unique character was recognized with official AVA status in 1991. Our 2011 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir is a blend of five vineyards: Garys', Pisoni, Rosella's, Sierra Mar and Soberanes. These vineyards are located in the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands and are built upon a tradition of high quality hand-winegrowing. We are so grateful for the friendship of the Pisoni and Franscioni families, whose own friendship spans three generations, and who provided us access to this spectacular fruit.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
