Spring $1.00 SALE, this week is:
   Greystone Cellars and Sanford

- 2010 Greystone Cellars, Oak Free Chardonnay, California. Our price is $9.00 and get the second bottle for $1.00:

Winemaker's notes: The Greystone Cellars Chardonnay vineyard sites were specifically chosen for their tropical nature. Cool Santa Barbara grown grapes provide crisp citrus texture, while the Lodi grown grapes give the Chardonnay rich, juicy flavors. A relatively cool California summer allowed for maximum flavor development. The warmer areas arrived at the end of August whereas the coastal fruit languished in cooling fog until the middle of September.

2007 Sanford, Chardonnay, La Rinconada Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills. Winery retail is $38.00. Our price is $29.00 and get the second bottle for $1.00:

The 2007 La Rinconada Chardonnay is sourced exclusively from our estate vineyards in the Santa Rita Hills. The vintage was characterized by low yields and intense flavors. This special bottling comes from our two best blocks (Wente and Clone 15), whole cluster pressed and barrel fermented. With the traditional Burgundian technique of lees stirring and barrel aging, this wine has developed richness and elegance sought after in fine Chardonnay. Intense but balanced, our flagship Chardonnay has tropical and citrus notes with hints of nutmeg. On the palate this wine shows the classic Santa Rita qualities of minerality and crisp acid.

This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features Chardonnay
  • 2011 14 Hands, Washington State; $12.00: This Chardonnay displays aromas and flavors of fresh apple with subtle hints of vanilla and buttery caramel. On the palate, notes of sweet oak and spice give way to a soft, lingering finish.
  • 2009 Mossback, Russian River Valley; Was $18.00, Now $15.00: An everyday Chardonnay with a creamy texture and oak-inspired buttered toast notes. The underlying fruit has pineapple and orange flavors.
  • 2011 Kendall Jackson, Grand Reserve, Santa Barbara-Monterey, 92 pts.; $21.00 "A very rich Chardonnay that's creamy and smooth in the mouth. A touch of oak and lees gives weight and density to the lime and peach fruit, while brisk acidity contributes to brightness. A great price for wine of this distinction."
  • 2009 Matanzas Creek, Sonoma County, 93 pts., Wine Enthusiast; Was $29.00, Now $22.00: "Unbelievably rich, this tastes pretty much as excellent as the winery's more expensive Chardonnays. It really dazzles with its complex flavors of tropical fruit, green apple, pear, buttered toast and honey. It's all brightened by terrific acidity and wrapped into a creamy texture."
  • 2011 La Crema, Russian River Valley; $26.00: "The 2011 Russian River Valley Chardonnay offers aromas of Bosc pear and ripe nectarine, with subtle hints of nutmeg and tropical floral. On the palate rich impressions of shortbread and creme brulee balance zesty notes of Meyer lemon and juicy yellow apple."
  • 2011 ZD, California; $38.00: ZD Chardonnay gets its signature vibrant tropical fruit aromas and flavors supported by spicy complexity due to a long, cool ferment in 100% oak barrels with secondary malolactic fermentation blocked. Inhibiting malolactic fermentation preserves the fruit's natural acidity and primary aromas and flavors, while time in French oak imparts spicy complexity. This award-winning Chardonnay just keeps getting better. It makes a fruity and refreshing wine to enjoy in the near term but has the structure to evolved toward greater complexity the cellar.

  • 2011 Cakebread Cellars, Napa Valley; $45.00: "Our 2011 Napa Valley Chardonnay opens with fresh, creamy aromas of ripe pear, apple and citrus, with light butter, yeast and spicy oak tones adding complexity.  The wine's rich, focused, green apple, melon and guava flavors are nicely balanced by fresh acidity and a piquant mineral tone.  Both mouthfilling and elegant, this quintessential Napa Valley Chardonnay is delectable now, but it will develop even greater complexity with another 5-8 years' bottle age."
  • 2010 Rochioli Estate, Russian River Valley, 92 pts., Wine Spectator; $59.00: "Full-bodied, rich and layered, with honeysuckle, smoke, roasted fig and melon flavors that are pure, focused, subtle and persistent. Drink now through 2018. 1,647 cases made".
  • 2010 Pahlmeyer, Napa Valley, 94 pts., Connoiseur's Guide; $72.00: "This Chardonnay exhibits a bright yellow hue, and tropical fruit and nutmeg spice on the nose. The core is highlighted by a mouth watering viscosity balanced with a tightening acidity and flavors of lime zest and pineapple. On the finish, hints of a fresh baked Parisian baguette complex with orange blossom, and notes of coconut husk." - Erin Green, Winemaker November 2011.
  • 2010 Peter Michael, Ma Belle-Fille, Knights Valley, Sonoma, 94 pts., Tanzer; $99.00: A core of lean citrus and vivid minerality, layered with baked apple and nectarine. The name translates to "My Daughter In-Law" in honor of Emily Michael, Paul Michael's wife.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees

From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr.  is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:

"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."

Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep  we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar.

This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled.  Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised.  As you are aware,  all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm.  This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar.
