Napa Cellars 2012 Sauvignon Blanc has vibrant aromas of ruby red grapefruit, key lime and hints of grass. The 100% stainless steel fermentation allows the wine to retain the fresh fruit flavors of pineapple, guava, passion fruit and citrus tones. This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features
-
2010 Villa Maria, Pinot Noir, Private Bin, Marlborough, 89 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $20.00: Winemaker's notes: A perfumed bouquet of ripe red cherries and berry fruits - hallmarks of Marlborough Pinot Noir. On the palate the wine displays ripe fruit with complex savoury, subtle herb and spice elements. Soft, silky supple tannins provide structure and definition, yet also allow for the wine to show Pinot Noir fruit purity, enabling it to be consumed young.
-
2009 Brewer-Clifton, Pinot Noir, Sta. Rita Hills, 92 pts., Parker; $42.00: "The 2009 Pinot Noir is a highly expressive wine. Sweet red fruit, herbs, licorice, dried flowers and mint are some of the notes that emerge from this mid-weight Pinot. The 100% stems come through in the wine's aromatic profile and high-toned finish. This is a terrific introduction to the house style and a fabulous effort at this level. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. No one has done more to carry the banner for the Santa Rita Hills than Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton. Both together at Brewer-Clifton and separately in their other projects, Brewer and Clifton consistently deliver delicious wines that are also deeply thought provoking with regards to the potential these vineyard sites hold. The Pinots in particular are compelling."
-
2009 Evening Land, Pinot Noir, Estate, 7 Springs Vineyard, Oregon, 92 pts., Wine Spectator; $45.00: High-pitched aromas of red berries, mace, potpourri and white pepper, with slow-mounting minerality. Juicy, sharply focused raspberry and cherry flavors show very good depth and vivacity, picking up a sexy floral nuance with air. This silky, precise pinot finishes with strong punch, excellent persistence and no excess fat. Develops very nicely in the glass and has the depth and structure to age, but it's also delicious now.
-
2010 Catena Zapata, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mendoza, Argentina, 92 pts., Parker; $20.00: Catena Cabernet Sauvignon presents a dark purple color with tones of garnet. The nose offers intense aromas of ripe black currant fruit with layers of eastern spice, cedar, and a touch of fresh herbs. The mouthfeel is full and rich with layers of cassis and notes of roasted espresso and graphite. The finish is bright and fresh with finely grained tannins.
- 2010 Vineyard 29, Cru, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, 93 pts., Parker; $60.00: A deep purple tinged wine of extraordinary depth and complexity. Primary aromas of dried red currant, ripe blackberries and milk chocolate give way to layers of fresh tobacco leaf, dried lavender and cedar. A generous palate offers roasted coffee, mocha, brambly black fruits and a touch of black pepper that slip seamlessly into a long supple finish. Stunning in mouthfeel, this profoundly textured wine will leave you wanting more.
-
2009 Dunn Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, 92 pts., Parker; $84.00: "Dunn's 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is loaded with blue and black fruit, grilled herbs, asphalt, melted road tar and smoke. A dark, juicy wine, the 2009 is surprisingly open for a young Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon. In this vintage, Dunn's Lake Vineyard, the last parcel on the property to ripen, accounts for nearly 50% of the blend. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. Randy Dunn's two 2009s are quite different from each other in this vintage, something that isn't always the case. That's good news for Dunn fans, as the 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the estate's few recent releases that won't take ages to be accessible."
-
2008 Dunn Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, 98+ pts., Parker; $100.00: "The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain takes things to another level, as hard as it may seem to believe. This was another difficult vintage for Dunn. Yields were down a full 50%. In exchange, nature rewarded Dunn with the fruit to make an epic wine that could very well turn out to be a modern-day legend. The 2008 is a huge, towering wine packed with dark fruit, licorice, tar, asphalt and licorice. Layers of perfume are woven throughout this majestic effort. The 2008 should only be purchased by the very patient, but it is a legendary wine in the making. Anticipated maturity: 2028-2043. I tasted a large number of wines with Randy Dunn this year. These are some of the most powerful, age worthy Cabernets being made in Napa Valley today...These Cabernets are for the patient, but make no mistake about it, in top vintages the Howell Mountain is one of the great wines, not just of California, but of the world."
- 2009 Dunn Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon, Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, 96+ pts., Parker; $100.00: Dunn's 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is loaded with blue and black fruit, grilled herbs, asphalt, melted road tar and smoke. - 2007 Cakebread Cellars, Cabernet Sauvignon, Dancing Bear Ranch, Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, 91+ pts., Parker; $119.00: "Our 2007 Dancing Bear displays the intriguing dance of intensity and elegance that has become this mountain wine's trademark. High-toned aromas of freshly crushed boysenberries, dark cherries and forest-floor spice (imagine walking in a pine forest after a light summer rainfall) introduce a big, dense, tightly wound palate packed with marvelously rich and concentrated black cherry, boysenberry and blackberry flavors, which are enhanced by savory clove, cocoa and vanilla tones. Beautifully structured and with great reserves of intense fruit supported by round, beautifully integrated tannins, this dramatic mountain red will delight wine lovers now and over the next decade."

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
