Winemaker's Notes: Made from 84% Tempranillo, 13% Garnacha and 3% Mazuelo, this wine embodies ripe fruit qualities with a perfect balance of acidity and supple roundness on the palate, and a hint of new oak. Our Red Reserva is a traditional Rioja with the classic Murrieta signature and enjoys all the benefits of modern winemaking philosophy, equipment and techniques..

Critical Acclaim:

"Bright red. Fresh red berry and spice aromas suggest a higher percentage of garnacha. Suave, energetic red berry flavors stain the palate, nicely braced by tangy mineral and spice qualities. The finish repeats the red fruit note and hangs on tenaciously."

91 Points - International Wine Cellar

"At first it seems closed and drawn, but with time this serious Rioja unveils toasty raspberry and mineral-tinged cola and plum aromas and flavors. There's natural snap to the wine courtesy of bright natural acidity, but also some beef and body that manifests itself in a controlled creaminess that houses herbal, chocolaty finishing notes. "

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast

The excellent 2011 vintage consolidates the style of this Viura white that comes through with a vibrant, vivacious character.
  • 2011 Marques de Caceres, Albarino, Rias Baixas Deusa Nai, Spain, 90 pts., Wine Spectator, Smart Buy: $18.00: "This aromatic white offers an alluring mix of orange blossom, wild herb and seaside notes, with a silky texture and tangy acidity for grip. Ethereal yet racy, this is juicy and fresh."
  • 2006 Bodegas Palacio, Rioja, Cosme Palacio Reserva, Spain, 91 pts., Wine Spectator; $30.00: Smoky and dark, with aromas of salami, rubber, baking spices and prune. In the mouth, it's full of brightening acids while the flavors of blackberry, black cherry and coffee yield to raisin and burnt toast on the finish. Very nice Rioja but with a touch of excess ripeness and raisin character.
  • 2010 Layer Cake, Malbec, Mendoza; $16.00: The primary elements on the palate are in fact balanced, rich, fruity, lush and structured. Flavor notes include lightly sweet ripe blackberry, cocoa and mixed spices. The round palate has a nice layering of tannins which give lift and depth. Finish is steady and lengthy.
  • 2010 Bodega Catena Zapata, Cabernet Sauvigon, Mendoza, 92 pts., Parker; $20.00: The Catena Cabernet Sauvignon shows a dark ruby color with violet tones. On the nose, it offers intense aromas of ripe raspberries and cassis with notes of black pepper, cloves and touch of fresh thyme. On the palate, it is full and rich and displays layers of black currant with notes of cedar, oregano and graphite. This Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant wine with tannins that provide structure and a bright, long, persistent finish.
  • 2010 Maison Nicolas Perrin, Crozes-Hermitage, Rhone, 90 pts., Wine Spectator; $42.00: "Deep ruby. Ripe cherry and dark berries on the fragrant, smoky nose. At once rich and lively, offering intense bitter cherry and cassis flavors that show very good depth and back-end punch. Finishes on a note of smoky bacon fat, with good tangy persistence.
  • 2011 Orin Swift Cellars, Abstract, California Red: $33.00: Aromas of wild berry, floral scents, and caramelized oak are present immediately. Rich and layered, the wine has a commanding entry that leads to notes of blackberry, plum, mocha and spice. The mid-palate is wholly generous with requisite acidity to complement the exotic mix of flavors. It finishes with a clean purpose that is focused and refined.
  • 2010 Orin Swift Cellars, Zinfandel, Saldo, California; $32.00: Winemaker Notes  Through the success of his Prisoner label, Orin Swift Cellars owner/winemaker Dave Phinney has gained access to some of the best Zinfandel vineyards in the Northern California growing community. Dave recently decided he wanted to make a high quality Zinfandel and what he created did not fit the constraints of a single AVA. This wine represents the best of the best lots made by Dave from vineyards all across Northern California.
  • 2011 Orin Swift Cellars, Locations, F1, French Red; $19.75: Opaque with ruby accents, the wine is intensely perfumed with aromas of vivid wild berry, warm spice, plum, kirsch, lavender and subtle oak nuances. The entry is juicy and penetrating with rich flavors of ripe blackberry, racy currant and blueberry that generously coat the palate. Easy drinking, the finish is long and clean with just the right amount of polished tannins to keep the fruit in focus.
  • 2011 Orin Swift Cellars, The Prisoner, Proprietary Red, Napa Valley, 1.5 Litre; $93.00: The wine has a dense red and black hue that is framed in vibrant crimson. Aromas of Bing cherry, espresso, roasted fig and vanillin oak accents are persistent. The entry is powerful and generous supported with lively acidity while flavors of ripe raspberry, pomegranate and wild berry fruit linger harmoniously. Soft, integrated tannin chains allow the wine to be approachable now and provides for a pleasant finish.
  • 2011 Orin Swift Cellars, The Prisoner, Proprietary Red, Napa Valley, 3 Litre; $240.00: Same as above in a 3 Litre bottle.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees

From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr.  is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:

"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."

Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep  we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar.

This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled.  Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised.  As you are aware,  all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm.  This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar.
