 Winemaker's Notes:

The 2007 La Rinconada Chardonnay is sourced exclusively from our estate vineyards in the Santa Rita Hills. The vintage was characterized by low yields and intense flavors. This special bottling comes from our two best blocks (Wente and Clone 15), whole cluster pressed and barrel fermented. With the traditional Burgundian technique of lees stirring and barrel aging, this wine has developed richness and elegance sought after in fine Chardonnay. Intense but balanced, our flagship Chardonnay has tropical and citrus notes with hints of nutmeg. On the palate this wine shows the classic Santa Rita qualities of minerality and crisp acid.

"Rich in acids and steely minerals, which gives the wine a tart scour, grounding the pineapples, pears and honeyed oak. Very nice and classic, and should gradually develop bottle complexities through 2013." 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast

This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features
Winter Whites (Chardonnay)

  • 2011 Duckhorn Vineyards, Decoy, Sonoma County; $19.00: This wine has inviting orange blossom and honey aromas with a hint of rich crème brûlée. On the
palate, lush tropical flavors and a creamy texture lead to a soft, round mid-palate with bright, refreshing acidity, adding length and focus to the abundant fruit.
  • 2011 Mer Soleil, Silver (Unoaked), Santa Lucia Highlands; $27.00Seamless fruit flavors of grapefruit, lemon and gooseberry shine through on the mid-palate, complemented by a crisp acidity that carries through from start to finish. The higher acidity in this wine makes it a perfect accompaniment to a wide array of food, particularly fresh summer salads, grilled seafood, tomato-based dishes and guacamole.
  • 2010 Mer Soleil, Barrell Fermented, Santa Lucia Highlands; $34.00: The Wagner family makes two Chardonnays under the Mer Soleil label. The unoaked "Silver" version and this luscious, barrel-fermented one. Copious amounts of tropical and citrus fruit fills the nose, turning soft and round on the palate with accents of brioche, baked apples and vanilla.
  • 2009 Ramey, Sonoma Coast, 91 pts., WIne Spectator; Was $39.50, Now $30.00: "Both fragrant and delicate, this offers complex floral, grapefruit, citrus, light oak and honeydew melon flavors perked up by lively acidity, which imparts a mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2016"
  • 2010 David Bruce, Russian River Valley; $30.00: Rich and round with a nice play between citrus and tropical fruit character. On the palate the wine maintains its richness, but a nice streak of minerality balances out all of the fruit.
  • 2011 ZD, California; $38.00: Bright, forward aromas of pineapple, apricot, and pear are complemented by subtle hints of orange blossom, honey, caramel and sweet vanilla. The palate is full bodied and lush with a core of bright tropical fruits that integrates wonderfully with the natural acidity and subtle oak notes.
  • 2011 Cakebread Cellars, Napa Valley; $45.00: Opens with fresh, creamy aromas of ripe pear, apple and citrus, with light butter, yeast and spicy oak tones adding complexity. The wine's rich, focused, green apple, melon and guava flavors are nicely balanced by fresh acidity and a piquant mineral tone. Both mouthfilling and elegant, this quintessential Napa Valley Chardonnay is delectable now, but it will develop even greater complexity with another 5-8 years' bottle age.
  • 2010 Kistler, Les Noisetiers, Sonoma Mountain; $65.00: Rich, complex smoky aroma of perfect ripe fruit with a delicious noisette note, in a pleasing, Meursault-like style. In the mouth the wine is very delicious, displaying intense, fruit flavors underpinned with toasty oak and smoky flavors. The crisp acidity in the wine highlights the delicious fruit and makes it an excellent accompaniment to a wide range of foods. It is richly textured with a long, lingering finish.
  • 2010 Pahlmeyer, Napa Valley, 94 pts., Connoisseur's Guide; $72.00: "This Chardonnay exhibits a bright yellow hue, and tropical fruit and nutmeg spice on the nose. The core is highlighted by a mouth watering viscosity balanced with a tightening acidity and flavors of lime zest and pineapple. On the finish, hints of a fresh baked Parisian baguette complex with orange blossom, and notes of coconut husk." - Erin Green, Winemaker November 2011
  • 2009 Maison Louis Jadot, Chassagne-Montrachet, Morgeot, Clos de la Chapelle, 93 pts., Tanzer; $90.00: Pale, bright yellow. Lemon and a whiff of apple on the nose. Then concentrated and densely packed, with harmonious acidity contributing to the impression of inner-mouth floral perfume. Finishes juicy and long, with a firm edge that will require five years of cellaring. This displays the power and thrust of the vintage.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees

From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr.  is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:

"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."

Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep  we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar.

This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled.  Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised.  As you are aware,  all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm.  This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar.
