This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features

Goodbye 2012!

  • 2002 J Vineyards, Brut, Russian River Valley, 95 pts. Connoisseur's Guide; $39.00: The 2002 J Brut has a bright, exotic nose that draws you in.  Hints of pear and citrus are followed by coconut, spice and yeasty aromas. The slight nutty and toasty characters blend in lending a nice balance to the fruit. There is a creamy, soft entry that unfolds into lemon cream, mixes with flavors of cinnamon and toasted chestnuts and explodes like a carnival in your mouth. Delicate bubbles lift the complex flavors across your palette and lead into a long, lush finish hinting of baked apples.
  • 2009 Schramsburg, Blanc de Blancs, Napa-Sonoma-Marin, 91 pts., Wine Spectator; $36.00Elegant and sleekly styled, showing appealing aromas of green apple and almond brioche, with focused, layered flavors of lemon curd, cinnamon and ginger. Drink now through 2015.
  • 2008 Schramsberg, Blanc de Noirs, Napa-Sonoma-Mendocino-Marin, 94 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $37.00: The 2008 Blanc de Noirs has lively aromas of apricot and persimmon, which gracefully lead to nuances of honey and lemon. The fruitful nose is complemented by vanilla spice and candied almond. The palate offers crisp and tart flavors of orange and lime rind, supported by a touch of roasted coffee. The finish is long and lingering.
  • 1998 Schramsberg, Rose' J Schram, Napa-Anderson Valley-Marin, 97 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $99.00: With just a hint of red berry fruit from Pinot Noir, this Chardonnay-driven wine combines the best of both noble varieties. Rich, tropical fruit aromas are reflected on the palate-pineapple, citrus and cherry. Toasted hazelnuts and freshly-baked sourdough grace the senses, emphasizing the importance of time spent yeast-aging in our caves. The mid-palate, luxurious with vanilla cream, is complemented by a rich, zesty, seamless finish that lasts as long as the memories of this unforgettable wine.
  • 2005 Schramsberg, J Schram, Napa-Sonoma-Mendocino-Marin, 97 pts., Connoisseur's Guide; $110.00: This four-county blend is a selection of what the winemakers consider their best lots of the vintage. Made from 86% Chardonnay and 14% Pinot Noir, it most certainly needs some time in the cellar, as it's scoury right now. But its richness is already apparent: it shows complex toast, leesy yeast, crème brûlée, lemondrop sour candy and ripe pear flavors. A gorgeous sparkling wine that will benefit from at least 12 years of aging.
  • 2006 Schramsberg, Blanc de Blancs, Napa-Mendocino-Sonoma-Marin, 3 Litre; $279.00: Medium straw in color, with a fine active bead and ample mousse. It seems only middleweight with the first sip, but quickly fleshes out in the glass, offering flinty mineral and a solid core of slightly yeasty, under-ripe apple character, bone dry and quite satisfying. More than medium bodied, with very good intensity, acids and length, and if it's not quite as weighty as many Champagnes and California sparklers.
  • 2000 Pol Roger, Brut, Extra Cuvee de Reserve, 91 pts., Parker; $99.00: Light lemon yellow color with abundant mousse; very leesy, yeasty, lemon rind, mineral nose; tasty, rich, yeasty, mineral, lemon rind, tart lemon palate; long finish
  • 2002 Pol Roger Brut, Rose' Extra Cuvee de Reserve, 94 pts., Wine & Spirits; $109.00: All Hundred Acre wines are made by sorting the fruit berry by berry, fermenting in small French oak fermenters, and long aging in the finest barriques. The secret to Hundred Acre is no compromise and no detail overlooked, ever.
  • 2005 Louis Roederer, Cristal, Brut, Reims, 97 pts., Wine Enthusiast; $255.00: Burnished gold tones glinting with orangey highlights; fine but ultra-energetic, rich and persistent bead. The nose is intense and bursting with gorgeous aromas typical of great Pinot Noir grapes. Flavors of stoned fruits (cherries), crystallized citrus peel (oranges), fresh almonds and sweet blossom (acacia) are reinforced by early hints of maturity. Witness scents of sweet, baked apples and spicy nuances that are characteristic of grapes from north-facing first great growths on the Montagne de Reims.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees

From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr.  is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:

"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."

Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep  we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar.

This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled.  Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised.  As you are aware,  all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm.  This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar.
