This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features - 2010 Flowers, Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, 93 pts., Wine & Spirits; $45.00: Deep garnet color with ruby highlights. This Pinot Noir has expressive aromas of dark berry fruit, black tea, and dried cranberry with earthy nuances of oregano, spice and sweet tobacco. Delivering flavors of ripe plum, fig, orange and licorice this wine is bold; yet, graceful on the palate with supple tannins and a lingering coastal
minerality on the finish. - 2010 Mount Eden, Pinot Noir, Estate, Santa Cruz Mountains, 96 pts., Parker; $65.00: The 2010 Pinot Noir Estate is an exceptionally elegant wine. Dried cherries, plums, exotic spices, mint and crushed flowers waft from the glass, with plenty of lift from the use of 50% whole clusters. There is a lot of personality here, but readers will need to be very patient while the stems integrate. The 2010 is striking from start to finish. I can't wait to see how this stunning Pinot ages.
- 2010 Turley, Zinfandel, Dusi Vineyards, Paso Robles, 92 pts., Wine Spectator; $53.00:: Dark and concentrated, with cherry pie and toasty vanilla aromas that lead to balanced, complex flavors of blackberry, mocha and peppered licorice. Drink now through 2018. 500 cases made.-TF
- 2010 Turley, Zinfandel, Ueberroth Vineyard, California, 94 pts., Tanzer; $60.00: Dark red. Knockout aromas of dark fruit cocktail, crushed rock and licorice, along with a whiff of exotic fruits. Dense and saline on entry, then chewy and deep in the middle, with pungent minerality giving punch to the smooth blackberry flavor. Wonderfully expansive yet focused zinfandel, conveying a powerful impression of rocky minerality. The impressively long, palate-staining finish features great penetration and ripe, fine-grained tannins. Disturbingly good zinfandel
- 2007 Paradigm, Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville, Napa Valley, 375 ml.; $38.00: Gorgeous ruby red color with very open aromas of ripe berry, cherry, and cassis-like fruit. Layered aromas lead to matching rich ripe fruit in the mouth. Tannins are well integrated in this pleasing presentation of Cabernet Sauvignon. Flavors persist with a very long, well tiered finish.
- 2008 Corson, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, 92 pts., Parker, 375 ml.; $41.00: The wines are classic. Juicy and forward, the 2008 reminds me of the 2004. It has evolved quickly in the bottle with fruit flavors favoring the plum, cassis and blackberry end of the spectrum. Notes of cocoa and spice add richness. The feel in the mouth is silky and supple. -Cathy Corison
-
2008 Silver Oak, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley, 94 pts., Wines & Spirits; Was $70.00, Now $60.00: This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Silver Oak Cellars is sourced from several different vineyards in Alexander Valley. A small crop in 2008 produced flavorful grapes at a very modest alcohol level, and harvest went on for over a month as clusters were selected a peak ripeness.
- 2009 Hundred Acre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Kayli Morgan, Napa Valley, 96 pts., Parker; $315.00: All Hundred Acre wines are made by sorting the fruit berry by berry, fermenting in small French oak fermenters, and long aging in the finest barriques. The secret to Hundred Acre is no compromise and no detail overlooked, ever.
-
2008 Shafer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Hillside Select, Napa Valley, 1.5 Litre, 96 pts., Parker; $500.00: "... one of the New World's most profound Cabernet Sauvignons ..." - Robert M. Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate
-
1994 Graham's Vintage Port, 96 pts., Parker; $115.00: In a port tasting, tasting Graham's is almost like tasting a big, rich, succulent Merlot after a group of blockbuster, tannic Cabernets. Sweeter and more obvious than many ports, the opaque purple-colored 1994 is fruity, powerful, and rich, with an addictive hedonistic quality. It will be ready to drink in 8-10 years and keep for up to 30. As always, this is a showy, flamboyant port that has the advantage of being slightly sweeter than other 1994s. A great Graham's. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2035.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr. is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:
"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."
Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar. This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled. Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised. As you are aware, all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm. This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar. |
