  • 2007 Borgo Scopeto, Chianti Classico, DOCG, Tuscany; $19.Facebook icon00: A fresh and fruity Sangiovese-centric wine from a great vintage. Beautiful aromas of cherry and berries greet the nose. It is medium bodied with a rather lengthy, fruity finish. A perfect wine for a simple pasta dish with fresh tomato and basil. The color is deep ruby red, with light burgundy reflections. On the nose, the bouquet is full and intense, with notes of small wild berries and pleasing scents of noble wood, vanilla and cocoa, while on the palate, dry, well structured, austere and elegant; with good harmony between the tannic and acid components and those responsible for softness (alcohol and glycerine) and excellent persistence.
  •  2005 Borgo Scopeto, Borgonero, IGT, Tuscany; $19.00: Produced using 60% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Syrah grapes, this wine is aged for 18-24 months in durmast casks of 30 hl and 8 months in the bottle. A very intense, almost impenetrable red in colour, its bouquet is broad, refined and captivating, with notes of leather and tobacco. To the palate it is extraordinarily structured, of great harmony and surprisingly soft. The  name Borgonero evokes a former farming settlement on the land of Borgo Scopeto.

  • 2007 Feudi di San Gregorio, Rubrato Aglianico, Campania; $19.00  : The 2007 Aglianico Rubrato shows terrific integrity in its solid core of fruit. This is an impeccably well-made wine with tons of concentration, even if some of the Aglianico character is overpowered by the oak treatment. Still, the wine offers excellent value  at this price point. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012. This is a beautiful set of entry-level wines from Feudi di San Gregorio, one of Campania's most prominent estates.

This Week's Village Wine Cellar Features!
Italy

  • 2010 Scarpetta, Pinot Grigio, IGT delle Venezie, Was $20.00, Now $15.00: Sourced from hillside vineyards in the Veneto and Friuli Dry and exceedingly fruity. Smell and taste peaches, pears and apples. Good "snap" of acidity. Touch of lemongrass and coriander is pleasing on the palate. As good by itself as it is with food.
  • 2010 Feudo Maccari, Nero d'Avola, IGT Sicily; $16.50: With a red ruby color, this wine is bursting with tangy red berry aromas and fruity sensations. In the mouth, the flavors are harmonious with good structure. An enticing tinge of acidity on the finish is a vestige of this cooler vintage which greatly helps this wine's balance and makes you want another sip.
  • 2007 Feudo Maccari, Nero d'Avola, Sicilia Saia,  90 pts. Wine Spectator; $35.00: Saia is an opulent, darkly concentrated wine that opens with lush tones of prune, dark fruit, spice, cola, leather and toasted nut. Try pairing it with potato gnocchi and veal ragú.
  • 2010 Il Poggione, Rosso di Montalcino, Tuscany, 91 pts., Parker; $24.00: Intense ruby-red color. Fruity bouquet with red berry notes. Very well structured, mellow, long-lasting flavour with smooth, velvety tannins.
  • 2006 Il Poggione, Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany, 94 pts. Parker; $69.00: "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is another superb Brunello from Il Poggione. The ripeness of the vintage meets a classic sense of structure as this bold, full-bodied wine takes shape in the glass. Dark cherries, tobacco, smoke and underbrush wrap around a wall of tannin as the finish builds to a majestic close. Il Poggione's Brunello remains one of the best values in fine, cellar-worthy wine."
  • 2007 Caparzo, Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany, 92 pts. Wine Spectator; $45.00: Garnet red, intense and brilliant, with light orange hints. The bouquet is penetrating, very full and varied, reminiscent of wild berries. On the palate, dry, warm, full-bodied, harmonious, delicate and austere and persistent at the same time.

Pair with roasts, grilled, spit-roasted or braised meats, game and ripe cheeses.

  • 2009 Antinori, Chianti Classico, Peppoli, Tuscany; Was $28.00, Now $25.00: The Peppoli 2009 is ruby red in color with aromas of ripe red fruit and well amalgamated notes of vanilla and coffee. The palate enjoys a notable support from the acidity, which maintains a pleasurable freshness and persistence of flavor along with soft and sweet tannins which guarantee excellent drinkability.
  • 2008 Mauro Molino, Barolo, Piedmonte, 90 pts. Parker; $42.00: A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. Wonderful aromas of flowers and crushed berries follow through to a full-bodied palate, with velvety tannins and a medium finish. Very pretty indeed.
  • 2009 Tenuta San Guico, Sassicaia, Bolgheri, Tuscany, 94 pts Parker; $210.00: Intense, concentrated and deep ruby-red, this wine offers complex aromas of red and black fruits, with spice and wild herb notes. In the mouth, the rich flavors are dense, yet elegant, harmonious and graceful, with sweet but firm tannins. With a long finish, this wine's depth and structure will ensure an extraordinary evolution in bottle.

Village Wine Cellar - Where we keep our entire store at a constant 64 degrees

From Parker's Wine Buyers Guide No 7 by Robert M. Parker, Jr.  is this quote from the introduction, How to Store Wine, page 9:

"If you can somehow get the temperature down to 65 degrees Farenheight or below, you will never have to worry about the condition of your wines."

Here at the Village Wine Cellar we proudly keep  we proudly keep our ENTIRE store a constant "64 degrees temperature controlled," 365 days a year, hence Village Wine Cellar.

This separates our store from all others as temperature is vital to the keeping wine from being spoiled.  Proper storage is crucial to keeping the wine's integrity and quality from being compromised.  As you are aware,  all too often, someone has purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere only to find that their purchase is ruined due to the store temperature was too warm.  This will never happen at Village Wine Cellar.
