Newsletter
April 2014

Welcome to the RDSI monthly newsletter.

This newsletter aims to inform stakeholders throughout the research community of progress on the RDSI project and highlight the significant strides made by all the eResearch Service Operators that work with the project. We encourage recipients to spread the word and distribute this newsletter via email, social media and other mediums.

It is great to be able to report that all eight of these eResearch Service Operators are now collectively making over 8 Petabytes of research data available.

Enjoy this month's edition.

Ingest Month for RDSI funded Nodes

RDSI funded Nodes are making a big push this month to secure additional collections.  Keep an eye on the Node Status map which illustrates the total terrabytes approved for ingest and terrabytes available for researchers.  To learn what collections are being held at each of the nodes, visit the Collections page.

Making Ocean Change Visible to Everyone

The Catlin Global Reef Record is making ocean change visible to everyone, creating a global survey of coral reefs using 360˚ imagery.

Sponsored by insurer Catlin, the scientific survey is led by The University of Queensland's Global Change Institute, with Professor Ove Hoegh-Guldberg as Chief Scientist. Data from the survey is stored on RDSI-funded storage at QCIF.

RDSI helps to unlock the DNA secrets of cancer

Professor David Adelson, head of Bioinformatics at the University of Adelaide, and Professor Hamish Scott, head of the Centre for Cancer Biology, and their team are analysing DNA sequences of tumours with the aim of identifying which chemical is likely to be most effective against a particular cancer.

RDSI supports researchers to understand disease transmission among lizards

Professor Michael Bull, a behavioural ecologist at Flinders University, works to understand the social interaction and movement patterns of sleepy lizards in order to provide insights into parasite and disease transmission.
