DMS GOES ON A JOYRIDE!
Inaugural release on the Discovery QTopia label
Remember double albums? DMS is celebrating the summer with the release of "Indie Joyride" - a 2-digital-CD pack fresh off the consoles of new and old friends alike. First up, by way of our London office, We Are Golden. WAG called upon a cadre of composers from various indie and rock bands to nail down the punchy, garage rock-inspired grooves we needed. Our aim was to combine the primal momentum of post-punk garage rock with a dose of good-natured rebel rousing to keep it all authentic.WAG used every opportunity to "geek out over vintage guitars, amps and microphones" The result: 11 rowdy, infectious tracks incorporating fuzzy, retro-inspired riffs and steady chugging backbeats. Great for scenes that involve build-outs, the sheer joy of the road, turbo-thrills and just plain getting down to business.
For an even edgier vibe on what a good time might feel like, we checked in with our longtime BFFs, In The Groove, from Minneapolis, MN. For Indie Joyride, we asked them for hard-charging anticipatory grooves with a celebratory nature and gave them carte blanche to draw from a variety of camps including alt rock, garage and post-punk -- so long as they kept it rowdy and threw in some surprises. ITG came back with 10 decidedly boisterous tracks that combine electronic loops and textures, distorted guitars and clever buzzy bass lines for a tight, drivin' mix of high-energy feel good. Melodic and catchy, these neo-punk pop jams bristle with an engaging attitude aimed at the well-adjusted malcontents among us. Think bikers, street car racers, men on a mission and everyday heroes of daring-do.

Emmy Nods for Top Series and Docs
DMS is pround to have lent a hand in the Production of the following series that have recently been nominated for Primetime and News/Documentary Emmys. AFRICA leads Discovery Channel's nominations with two: Outstanding Nature Programming and Outstanding Music & Sound. A Discovery Channel/BBC co-production, AFRICA is a seven-part series that brings the continent to life with never-before-filmed species, animal behaviors and secret, natural wonders of the world. From Music Supervisor Birce Dean: "Lending music from Discovery MusicSource allowed the producers of Arica creative flexibility in forming this soundtrack along with original music from Will Slater and Sarah Class. It was a pleasure to curate a series of playlists from DMS to contribute to this breathtaking documentary and exciting to see the Primetime and News/Documentary Emmy nomination."Discovery Studios' ALASKA: THE LAST FRONTIER which airs on Discovery Channel garnered two Emmy® nominations for the 66th Primetime Emmy® Awards, announced this morning by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. ALASKA: THE LAST FRONTIER is nominated for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program and Outstanding Cinematography for Reality Programming for the 2014 honors. ALASKA: THE LAST FRONTIER follows the Kilcher family in their hometown of Homer, Alaska as they survive off the land they began homesteading over three generations ago. The harsh conditions of the Alaskan frontier prove challenging as the family successfully works together to hunt, farm, barter and build to thrive in the sometimes brutal environment. Working with DMS music supervisor Pat Weaver and composer Tony Morales for the past two seasons, the series highlights a unique audio signature that relies on a predominantly acoustic pallet. Taking a cue from the rustic settings, Morales incorporated elegant mandolins, banjos, hand percussion and fiddle to emphasize the rootsy vibe of the show. For the lush panoramas, these Appalachian-oriented instruments were blended with bold orchestral layers , giving both intimate and grand subject matter a warm, cohesive flow.

WE ARE GOLDEN
Over in Europe, our London office are excited about working with smart new bespoke and library music production company We Are Golden. Formed last year by former EMI Production Music Global Creative Manager, Score Producer and Music Supervisor Hannah King, and Producer / Mix engineer Nathan Boddy (Gary Numan, Egyptian Hip Hop, Real Lies, I Blame Coco), We Are Golden have built up an impressive network of composers that they can call upon to respond to music briefs with expertise and originality. They tapped in to these connections and helped us to put together our new Indie Joyride release--a collection of punchy, garage rock revival inspired grooves.
We're looking forward to our continued collaboration with We Are Golden.

ALBUM OF THE WEEK: THIN SUNLIGHT
We love this cool collection of tripped-out Americana from our partners at ITG. Hypnotic post-rock meets surf and blues in this psychedelic cowboy's musical trek. This broody, cerebral take on American roots music is the perfect twisted, poetic musical accompaniment to dark, dreamy, creepy, weird, and introspective scenes in worlds off the beaten path. And if you haven't got the place for these tracks yet, have a listen and be inspired. These broody, cinematic soundscapes set the scene.
