First Iowa Student STEM Film Fest a "Hit"

Complete with paparazzi, popcorn and a "Hollywood-style Walk of Fame," 150 young producers, actors, their parents and teachers attended the first Governor's STEM Advisory Council's Iowa Student STEM Film Fest at the Science Center of Iowa in Des Moines on Sunday, May 5, 2013. The red-carpet event "premiered" 90-second films from twelve Iowa schools demonstrating what STEM means to them. (continued...)

Crestwood Elementary Engineers Scale-Up
Both students and teachers at Crestwood Elementary, part of the Howard-Winneshiek School District,
have had a great year experiencing the STEM Scale-Up Program, A World in Motion (AWIM). AWIM was implemented in the first- and second-grade classes.

Iowa Receives $1.2 Million Federal STEM Grant
Governor Terry Branstad and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds announced this month that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a 3-year, $1.2 million grant to an evaluative consortium assembled by the Governor's STEM Advisory Council Executive Director Jeff Weld.
