Message from the PTO President
Hello Valley Forge Families~

I hope you can join in the fun later today at the annual Pizza Bingo night. I'm pleased that we can hold the event at Valley Forge Middle School. We have some wonderful "celebrity" callers on deck for the evening:  Ms. Klunder, Mrs. McCann, Ms. McGarrigle, Mrs. Swetkowski and Mrs. Wills. The Fourth Grade party committee will have a table of dessert goodies for sale so plan accordingly for that, physically and fiscally.

Next Tuesday, February 10th at 8:00 am, parents of 3rd grade students whose children work with Kyle McGinley, Samantha Boardman or Michelle Dailey are invited to stop by room 97 to meet the newest members of VFES's faculty.  Please pop in for a cup of coffee and a quick hello before you start your day.

Happy Valentine's Month!

Notice to 3rd Grade Parents- Dental Requirement

You will be receiving a letter in the mail from your school nurse about your child's dental health.

The Public School Code of Pennsylvania requires all children in grades 3 & 7 to have a dental examination. Examinations completed by a family dentist within one year prior to the start of the school year are accepted for the required proof of such care.

When you receive the letter, please complete the form and return it to your school nurse as soon as possible.  Thank you for your assistance in meeting this state mandate.

VFES Publishing Center NEEDS YOU!

VFES offers its 1st through 4th graders a unique opportunity to become published authors! Students write and illustrate original stories, and parent volunteers type, proof, and assemble their creations. Last year, we assembled a record-breaking 712 books! We are the only elementary school left in the district that runs a Publishing Center of this magnitude. Our busy season is quickly approaching, and we are in need of additional volunteers to help staff the Publishing Center. All volunteers can work around their own schedules, and, depending on the area chosen, volunteers can work from home or in school. Contact Tarin Cataldo at vfepubcntr@tesd.net for additional information. Please consider being a part of this wonderful program!

Art Goes To School Returns To VFES!

February 9th to 13th

Art Goes to School is an art appreciation program specifically designed for young children. Our primary purpose is to instill an interest and delight in art, in all its forms and styles and from all historical periods. The AGTS volunteers help children discover for themselves an enjoyment in and an understanding of art, not by lecturing, but by becoming "Art Detectives" who will uncover a whole new way of looking at and appreciating art. We will be playing games that involve poems, a scavenger hunt and fun facts trivia.

The 2015 portfolio includes the painting deemed perhaps to be one of the greatest works of art in the world, "Las Meninas" by Diego Velazquez, and one of the copies made by arguably one of the world's greatest artists, Pablo Picasso. We also have an array of American artists represented from Frederic Remington's action portrayal of cowboys breaking in a horse to William Glackens' impressionistic "Race Track" to the serene portrait of a girl and her cat ("Sita and Sarita") by celebrated portraitist Cecilia Beaux. An exciting inclusion this year is discussion of a Philadelphia city mural, "Urban Horsemen", which we feel sure will delight the children. Our portfolio aims to foster discussion on different painting techniques (the pointillism of Georges Seurat, the synesthesia of Wassily Kandinsky and the realism of Albert Edelfert, to name a few) as well as debate about abstraction v. realism and how each artist produces their own version of reality.

We hope our program will engage and excite your children and enhance their understanding of all sorts of different art works. Perhaps you might like to sit in on a session to see what we do - please click on the link for the schedule. Please feel free to contact Sarah Culbert on 610 783 1255 or email her at sarahculbert@hotmail.com with any other questions.

Calling All Music Lovers

It is that time of year when we create memory CDs of our children's voices.  Every year volunteers record our children singing a song, and the CD is then given to the children when they are graduating from Valley Forge Elementary.  We are looking for a few volunteers per class that would be able to come record during your child's music class.  It only takes one or two sessions per class!  If you are interested, please email Tracy Simpson at tem@trdesigns.com.
