Friendly Reminder from the Publishing Center

Happy 2015! Just a reminder to please have your 1st through 4th grader submit his/her completed Author Interview to the Publishing Center as soon as possible. The Interview, which was sent home in October, will be used to create the About the Author page at the back of your child's PC book. Having them sooner rather than later allows us to speed up the publishing process. If you need a new Interview form, or if you would like more information about volunteering in the Publishing Center, please contact Tarin Cataldo at [email protected]. Thanks!!

Spring Fair Chairs Needed!

Friday, May 8, 2015

Spring Fair is one of our most anticipated events for the year. Our children enjoy the games, food, winning prizes and cakes, and winning raffles among other activities. We have always had an amazing group of parent chairs who ensure that the Spring Fair is a huge success! This year we need a few more chairs to help us with:

  • Dinner (1 Co-Chairperson)
  • Entertainment (1 Co-Chairperson)
  • Parking (2 Chairpersons)
  • Set Up/Tear Down (1 Co-Chairperson)
  • Volunteers (1 Co-Chairperson)

We will provide you with detailed information/binders for each position. If you are interested, please contact Rujuta Mandelia, Head Chairperson, Spring Fair at  [email protected]

From your School Nurse - When To Keep Your Child At Home

There are times when you may not be sure that it is necessary to keep your child home from school. Here are a few symptoms that may mean that your child is sick.

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Running or inflamed eyes or nose
  • Rash
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Sore throat
  • Enlarged glands
  • Excessive coughing

A child should remain at home at least 24 hours with no fever or vomiting following an illness. Notify the school of the reason for your child's absence (i.e., fever 102, diagnosed by MD with the flu, positive strep throat test, etc.). When your child returns to school, he/she must bring a written excuse stating the date(s), and the reason for the absence. This excuse must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

By following these guidelines, you will protect not only the health of your child, but also the health of his/her classmates and the school staff.

Volunteers Needed

Please help us!  We are still in need of volunteers for the following chairperson positions:

  • Spring Fair Chairpersons for the following roles:
    • Dinner (2)
    • Entertainment (1)
    • Parking (1)
    • Program (1)
    • Volunteers (1)

There are also many General Volunteer/Committee opportunities available for the school year. To see a complete listing of volunteer opportunities click on "Volunteer" at www.vfespto.org.  Any questions can be directed to Amanda Ivory at [email protected] .

Gratitude Corner
The Publishing Center gives a big thanks to Typing Chair, Valerie Rosenblum, for driving out to York to pick up (many!) rolls of wallpaper donated by York Wallpaper.  These rolls will be used to create the cool back covers for our PC books.  Thanks, Valerie!!

Thank you to Amanda Ivory, Carolyn Swetkowski and Lesley Kennedy for organizing a holiday food drive to support families through T&E Care. This is an annual food drive at VFES with this year's donation being the largest ever. Thank you to the students and parents who supported this great cause.
