This Week's Spotlight is on Kyle McGinley....
Valley Forge Elementary welcomes Ms. Kyle McGinley, a teacher who will be providing Language Arts & Math Support for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd grades. Kyle grew up in Edgmont, PA and attended Penn State University where she studied Developmental Psychology. Ms. McGinley went on to receive her Masters in Early Childhood Education & certification in Elementary Education from West Chester University. Ms. McGinley began her teaching career as a long term substitute for the 3rd grade at both Wayne Elementary School and New Eagle Elementary. Last year she taught at TE Middle School in a variety of subjects that included reading, math & social studies. Prior to joining VFE in October of this year, Ms. McGinley was teaching 2nd grade at Wayne Elementary School.
We recently spoke with Ms. McGinley and asked her some questions to help both the students and parents of Valley Forge Elementary School get to know her better. This is what she had to say....
Please tell us about your family?
I am lucky to have an amazing family. I have two older brothers who are both married and two fantastic parents who put up with me! I am extremely lucky to be an aunt to Jackson who is a year and a half and Ashlyn who was just born on Friday!
Do you have a favorite vacation destination? If so, where?
My family has a beach house in Sea Isle City, NJ. I have been going there every summer since I was 2 so it is safe to say it is a second home to me! I generally just LOVE the beach, so anywhere there is sunshine, sand and an ocean you will find me smiling!
What is your favorite color?
Although it changes daily, I think I would pick eggplant purple.
What are some of your hobbies outside of school?
I love being outdoors, walking trails, and going to the beach. I also love going to sporting events, especially the Phillies. Generally, I just enjoy being with family and friends and seeing my niece and nephew.
Being an educator can be both a fulfilling and challenging role.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
I actually didn't always know that I wanted to be a teacher. I was always fascinated by child development and knew that I wanted to work with children but I never was certain about how. It wasn't until my senior year in college when I participated in Big Brother Big Sister and Orphanage Outreach in the Dominican Republic that I realized that teaching was my passion.
Think back to when you were an elementary student, what was your favorite part of school or a special memory you would like to share?
My favorite elementary school memory was when I was in 7th and 8th grade and we were paired with a younger buddy (1st with 8th; 2nd with 7th). We would meet and read with them, write letters to them, and run holiday themed activities with them. It was amazing how grateful and exciting the kiddos were for our mere attention. I always enjoyed being a mentor to young children, so looking back I am not very shocked that I love teaching!
With VFES' theme of Super Heroes in mind, what is your Super Power?
Hard question! I think it would be that I am reflective. Whether good or bad, I have thought over the past, present and future many times!
Finally, we would like to appeal to your humorous side. If you were a fruit or vegetable, which one would you be and why?
I would be a watermelon. Watermelon does not rot when surrounded by fruit that is rotting, as I try to stay positive and avoid negativity. Plus, watermelon is a summer fruit which is my favorite season and involves the beach!
