Bulletin Boards (the old fashioned kind!)

Please remember that the PTO has two bulletin boards in our school lobby for you to keep connected. Check them out the next time you are visiting. And remember, the boards are where posters and flyers for PTO-sponsored events should be located.

Contact Stacey Pellegrini with any questions,vpfundraising@vfespto.org.

Mother Goose is Coming to Kindergarten!

The Cultural Arts Committee has invited a special guest to visit with
our morning and afternoon Kindergarten students on Wednesday, October 15th. Mother Goose will join the students to share her alphabet rhymes!  The Kindergartners will hear a different rhyme for each letter of the alphabet. The recitation of nursery rhymes provides an important vehicle to expose young children to alliteration, assonance, rhythm and rhyme. The children will have lots of fun participating in story and action rhymes with Mother Goose and her stuffed pet goose.

Greetings from the Publishing Center

I hope that the 2014-15 school year is off to a great start for everyone!  For those of you new to Valley Forge Elementary, you may not know that we have our very own Publishing Center.  1st through 4th graders write and illustrate original stories, and a group of dedicated parent volunteers help turn those creations into actual hardbound books.  A copy of each book even gets shelved in the library, and students can check out their books and those of their friends.  Last year, VFES students submitted 420 stories and our volunteers assembled a record 712 books.  Way to go!

In order to continue offering this wonderful program (the largest of its kind in the T/E elementary schools), we need a lot of help.  There are a variety of volunteer positions available (including typing, proofreading, about the author, titles and laminating, covers, and assembly).  Many areas allow you to volunteer from home, while others give you the opportunity to be on-site in school.  We are also incredibly flexible - you can volunteer when, and as much time as, your schedule allows.  We will have an informational meeting and training sessions later in the fall for our volunteers.  If you are interested in volunteering in the Publishing Center or if you would like more information, please email Tarin Cataldo at vfepubcntr@tesd.net.  Thank you!

Dental Care For Children

The Children's DentalClinic (CDC) opened its doors in 1946 and this year begins celebrating its 68th year of dental care for children in the Tredyffrin/Easttown and Great Valley School Districts!

The CDC is a nonprofit, 501 (c) (3) charitable organization, registered with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Charitable Organizations, supported by community fund-raising events, donations from local dentists, residents, service organizations, PTO's, and the two school districts.

Student eligibility is based on the criteria used by the two school districts for the free and reduced lunch program.

Students who come to The CDC receive preventative dental care as well as extensive restorative work of their teeth; all records are kept confidential, with the students' families asked to pay a nominal fee of $5.00 per visit.

Most treatment is completed "in house" with specialist services used in the cases where endodontic or orthodontic services are needed.

Volunteers are the backbone of this organization and are needed to transport students to The CDC located in the T/E Middle School.

Your CDC School Representative:Diane Pancoast (pancoastfamily@comcast.net) can give you details regarding the school districts requirements for drivers.

Thank You!

Teacher Spotlight - New Feature!
This Week's Teacher Spotlight is On:
Allegra Gerhardt!

Ms. Gerhardt is currently a 3rd grade teacher filling in for Mrs. Kennedy, who is presently out on maternity leave.  Allegra grew up in the T/E School District, attending Beaumont, T/E Middle and Conestoga High School.  She went on to attend Drexel University, where she played lacrosse, and is currently working on a Graduate Degree from Eastern University.

Ms. Gerhardt started working for VFE as a Special Education Paraprofessional in the 2012-13 school year.  Before that she worked in downtown Philadelphia at a learning center for 3-5 year olds in the morning and an after school program for 6-12 year olds.

We asked Ms. Gerhardt to share a little about herself so that the students and parents at VFE could get to know her better.  This is what she had to say...

Please tell us about your family...

My Dad is my hero.  He works in finance and is a true outdoorsman, with many interests and hobbies.  He has taught me so much throughout my life.  My Mom is amazing!  She is an avid runner and Pilates instructor.  She is the reason I wanted to become a teacher and she continues to guide me through my career.  I also have two older brothers, Wade (29) & Travis (27) and they are the best!

What is your favorite color?  Red

What are some of your hobbies outside of school?

I enjoy coaching and working out.  Presently I coach lacrosse for Conestoga High School and for Motion Lacrosse Club.  I also enjoy being with my family and friends, going to concerts, the beach & traveling.  I also love reading & being outside!

Do you have a favorite vacation destination?  If so, where?

I love to travel!  I do not think I could pick just one!  This summer I went to London & Scotland and absolutely loved them both!

Being and educator can be both a fulfilling and challenging role.  What inspired you to become a teacher?

My mother was a teacher, she taught regular as well as special education.  I was always interested in what she did and I loved going to see her classroom and meet her students.  I grew up babysitting and working at camps in the summertime and I just loved being around children.  I always felt like I had a calling for it, so I have stuck with it and I could not be happier!

Thinking back to when you were an elementary student, what was your favorite part of school or a special memory you would like to share?

I loved elementary school so much.  Tredyffrin Easttown is a special place to go to school and having that experience was incredible for me.  My favorite memory that comes to mind was the fourth grade talent show.  Four of my best friends and I worked so hard on a dance routine to a popular Britney Spears song.  Practicing and preforming with my best friends was such a fun experience.  What makes it even more amazing is that I am still, to this day, very close with those same girls!

With VFE's theme of Super Heroes in mind, What is your Superpower?

I think my superpower would be caring.  I think I am a very caring person and I care about each and every one of my students!

Finally, we would like to appeal to your humour side.  If you were a fruit or vegetable, which one would you be and why?

If I were a fruit I would be an apple, because I absolutely love fall, it is my favorite season.  Also, apples represent teachers, and I love that also!
