In Need of a PTO President

Dear parents & guardians -

The PTO is still in need of a president

for next year.  After holding numerous

chairperson positions over the years and spending 4 years on the PTO board including 2 as president, I need to step down.  I have streamlined the position tremendously and now it will be so much easier than ever before.   Rujuta Mandelia has graciously offered to be the Vice President next year, and the PTO president position is now designed to only be a one year term.

Please consider volunteering for this important position!  I will still have a 3rd grader in the school and will hold your hand every step of the way.  If you are interested, please contact me at ptopres@vfespto.org.

Thank you,

Raquel Hunter

VFES Spring Fair Book Sale

May 3, 2013

Once again we will have a used book sale at the Spring Fair.  Please note, this year we will

be collecting both children's and adult books, CDs, DVDs and videos.  If you have any of these items to donate, please drop them off in the book box which will be located in the school lobby after spring break.  We are especially in need of chapter books suitable for our third & fourth grade students.  Many of the books that your children have outgrown will make a younger child very happy!!

  • No textbooks, magazines, periodicals, or encyclopedias.
  • Any questions please call Beth Burns (610) 407-4591 or Adrienne Miller (610) 971-1555
We will be collecting materials until the day of the fair, May 3rd.

Spring Fair Grab Bags

We need your FIESTA toys!

Until May 3rd

We are looking for toy donations to

put in grab bags for this year's ever-

popular grab bags.  Your child's castoffs

could become someone else's new treasure!

If you have balls, puzzles, baseball cards, games, jewelry, stickers, pencils, vehicles, leftover party prizes, fun meal toys, or other toys, drop them off in the big yellow box in the lobby.  We will make up the grab bags and will be collecting items until May 3.

Don't forget to stop by the grab bag table to find new treasures, too. See you at the Spring Fair.

Glue Stick and Bottle Recycling Program

We are saving our empty glue sticks

and glue bottles as part of our Go

Green science unit in 2nd grade.

Elmer's Glue Crew Recycling Program

uses the recycled items to make new

items like backpacks and binders.

If you have any empties at home, please send them in and deposit them in the bright orange glue recycle box in the lobby.

You can get more info at elmersgluecrew.com to learn more about this program.  Thanks for helping 2nd grade.

Class Placement for 2013-14 School Year

As we approach the last months of school,

Valley Forge staff members have begun

planning for next school year.  One significant

part of this process is the creation of classes

at each grade level.  This process begins in

May and continues throughout the summer

months.  Class assignments will be mailed home in late August.A complex process, student placement within a grade level team, is a responsibility shared by all professional staff members, including your child's core teacher, special area teachers, the reading specialist, the school counselor and me.  These dedicated educators are well positioned to collaborate with one another to make sound placement decisions based on professional experience and a variety of evidence.   The staff works diligently to consider the factors we all hold important in the grouping process.  We treat with the utmost seriousness the academic, social and emotional needs of each and every one of our students.  Since children have a wide variety of strengths and needs, we offer an array of programs and services.  The result is a balanced classroom that addresses both the strengths and needs of each child.

Board Policy 6152, Teacher Instructional Team and Section Requests, was revised in January. A copy of the policy can be found on our District website at http://www.tesd.net/cms/lib/PA01001259/Centricity/Domain/14/P6152.pdf . Because of the number of factors we must consider, the policy states that, "Requests by parents, guardians and students for specific teachers will not be considered."

I thank you now and in advance for resting assured that our staff has your child's best interest at heart.  I very much appreciate your trust in this process and continued support of Valley Forge Elementary School.

Attendance Reminders

Please remember to call or email

the school EACH day your child is

absent at 610-240-1600 option 5

or vfeattendance@tesd.net .

If you send an email to vfeattendance@tesd.net

to report the absence, that will also count as your absence note.

If you call in the absence, a signed note is still required

when your child returns to school.  Please remember to

list your child's name, the date(s) of absence, and the

reason for the absence.

If your child is absent one or more days due to travel, please fill in a

Request for Legal Absence from School for Student Travel form.  You

can pick up a copy of this form in the office or it is available on our

website at the link below. http://www.tesd.net/cms/lib/PA01001259/Centricity/Domain/685/form.pdf

Safety Reminder...

If your child is scheduled to ride the bus and you realize a change is needed, please do NOT attempt to pick up your child outside as the buses are loading. It is against safety protocol for the bus drivers and staff members on duty to release a child in this manner. In order to create a safe situation for students, parents/guardians must contact the main office if a change in dismissal is needed. Thank you!

Gratitude Corner

If you attended the Adult Social & Silent Auction you know it was a great event & it raised a lot of money for VFES!  A huge thank you goes out to our amazing event chair people:  Nancy Coradi, Raquel Hunter, Karen Jens, Vandana Kotapally, Karen Pecora and Kristin PisanoSpecial Thanks to Susan Look and Adrienne Miller for helping with RSVPs, nametags and check-in at the event.

Our yearbook team put together another super colorful and awesome yearbook (we got a sneak peak!).  We owe a debt of gratitude to Sarah Culbert, Angel McAveney, Jodi Levine, Sally Selim, Stacey Pellegrini, Jenni DiMaio, Trish McFillin, Sukie Carpenter and Julie Kanto.

Finally, we have to thank Anna Salvati and her team of parent volunteer scoopers and topping "police" for another fun Ice Cream Social.

Thank you so much everyone!
