THREE ELRO STUDENTS AWARDED POSSE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

We are pleased to announce that three ERHS seniors have been named Posse Scholars by the Posse Foundation. Sabrina C. plans to attend Brandeis University and Kyle B. and Danny R. plan to attend De Pauw University.

Founded in 1989, Posse identifies public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential. Posse extends to these students the opportunity to pursue personal and academic excellence by placing them in supportive, multicultural teams-Posses-of 10 students. Posse partner colleges and universities award Posse Scholars four-year, full-tuition leadership scholarships.

Sabrina was introduced to the Posse program in 8th grade through the program Breakthrough New York by a former Posse Scholar.  She explains, "Even though the process was extremely long and mentally straining, I was driven to succeed and show Posse that I have the leadership abilities to impact the world for the better. After three rounds of leadership testing and interviews, I felt relieved that I received the scholarship." Continuing, she noted that a heavy weight had been lifted off of her shoulders and that of her family. She further expressed her enthusiasm for starting the college journey with Posse by her  side.

Kyle, Sabrina and Danny attended the 2015 Posse New York Awards Ceremony at the Apollo Theater earlier this year. More than 130 new Scholars celebrated winning Posse Scholarships worth more than $23 million with their families and friends, representatives from Posse partner colleges and universities, donors, Posse board and staff members and volunteers.
We are very proud of our Posse
Scholars and wish them all the best in college!

Congratulations to ELRO's Posse Scholars 2015!!

 College Corner
by Allison Cohen

As the year comes to an end, the Class of 2015 has a lot to be proud of. The seniors are going off to a wonderful array of college options both near and far. Over the summer, the college process continues. It is a time for students to visit campuses, study for standardized tests, and be involved in their community through service and internships. New York City provides so many different great opportunities - my best advice is for students to think about their favorite things and pursue opportunities related to them. Love art? Apply to museum internships for high school students. Care about the environment? Work with the Central Park Conservancy. Fascinated by the stock market? Explore opportunities for job shadowing experiences. The list goes on. Colleges value when students use their own initiative to discover and create ways to get involved. The most meaningful and impressive things occur when students seek out activities. Don't get discouraged if the first thing doesn't work out. Colleges expect you to be tenacious and resilient. I personally recommend low cost/free options as opposed to expensive high school camps/programs, but everyone should do what works best for them. I hope everyone in the ElRo community has an enjoyable and safe summer!
