Spring Leaves Falling

It's spring and the leaves are falling!  There are leaves everywhere.....

Trees will lose their leaves in the spring when the sap rises and new leaves are beginning to bud. There will be a period of time where the old leaves co-exist with the new growth. But their time is limited. The old leaves are dead and dying and they will drop away. We'll do our best to take care of the leaves for you but it's a never ending battle until they all drop off.

Historically, we've found that this period will last for about 4-6 weeks. Expect this to last until the end of March or early April - hopefully.  We're not "Mother Nature" so don't hold us to this ...

For our customers that have a Premium Service Plan with us, you'll notice that we are beginning to trim all of your hedges or trees (up to 6' tall) in preparation for that new spring growth.  Please feel free to call or email us if we take care of something extra.

As always, if you have a special occasion planed, let us know in advance and we'll do our best to arrange our schedule to meet your needs. We appreciate your business!

Spring Flowers - Annuals vs Perennials
What's the Difference?

yellow_closeup_flower.jpg

Basic Difference

The essential difference between annuals and perennials is that annuals are one-season plants, whereas perennials live through multiple growing seasons. Examples of common annuals include impatiens, pansies and petunias.

Growing Considerations

Annuals are labor-intensive and require more fertilizing, weeding, de-heading and watering than perennials. Annuals are best used as colorful filler in established gardens and can be easily grown in containers and hanging planters. Soil preparation is more critical for perennials, and be sure to choose plants that are well-suited regarding sun/shade balance to the planting site.

Pros & Cons

Annuals are more expensive than perennials over time because they need to be replaced every year; however, with proper care, annuals provide season-long blooms. Perennials are better choices for gardeners who prefer lower-maintenance gardens because once planted, their care is minimal. Depending on climate, some annuals function as perennials in frost-free areas, and some perennials are classified as annuals in warmer areas because of longer growing seasons.

Don't return phone calls from
these area codes - It's a scam!
Keeping you Safe.

A scam that repeats itself in modified forms every few years is once again spreading throughout the United States. Don't be a victim!

Criminals target people simply by calling them. Intended victims receive a call on their phones from area code 473 which rings once and then disconnects, thereby arousing the call-recipient's natural curiosity - "who just called me and from where?"  Sometimes the caller actually allows the phone to ring long enough for the victim to answer -- after which the caller (or the caller's robocaller system) makes groaning sounds or otherwise indicates that he or she is in distress and then hangs up, enticing the victim to wonder what is going on and call back.

Calls placed to 473 numbers are international calls and can be quite expensive - and, because the criminals sometimes establish the number which the victim sees on his or her caller ID as a premium service number - the rate can exceed $20 for the first minute!

473 is not the only area code from which this scam has been perpetrated.

Stay Safe!
