Not So Sweet for Pets Our Medical Director, Dr. Michael Bassett, shares an important article for all pet owners on the dangers of the artificial sweetener, Xylitol. DVM360 writes:
In the Seattle Times, Dana Brooks, DVM, an internist at Seattle Veterinary Specialists in Kirkland, Wash., offers up some useful information about the dangers of Xylitol for pets. Often used as an artificial sweetener in foods, including sugar-free gum, sugar-free mints, chewable vitamins, tooth paste, and oral-care products, Xylitol is also available in a granulated form at your local grocery store for baking and beverage sweeteners. Meet Dr. Lamar!
Pet Dominion is excited to introduce the newest member of our veterinary family, Dr. Alexandra Lamar! Dr. Lamar was raised in Silver Spring and went to high school at Richard Montgomery in Rockville. She received her Bachelor's degree in Biology from Virginia Tech and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to veterinary school she worked as a veterinary technician and lodging staffer here at Pet Dominion. She is happy to have returned back to Maryland after almost a decade of living in southern Virginia, but will forever be a Hokie at heart. Her veterinary interests include internal medicine and animal behavior. Outside of work she loves to play board games, try new types of food, and travel. Her home is currently full to the brim with 2 dogs and 3 cats, but she is looking to upgrade to a small farm to make room for some pet cows.
