Spring Summit

"Something for All"

Philanthropy Southwest upheld its reputation for offering "something for all" at April's Spring Summit in Austin. Sunday night's opening dinner at the Shield Ranch offered a welcome calm before a storm of activity that began the following day. Partial representation from Colorado (see photo) shows a relaxed and happy group after a stroll through the ranch at sundown to view the Texas wildflowers and a breath-taking vista from the escarpment.

Get on the Map

To improve the quality, timeliness, and availability of grant data for funders in our region

The campaign to "Get on the Map" is a partnership between Philanthropy Southwest, the Foundation Center and the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers, and has as its mission to improve the quality, timeliness, and availability of rich grant data for and about funders in our region. And it all starts with you sharing your current grants data.

When you share your data, you'll be making a powerful contribution to Foundation Maps, a highly interactive, searchable mapping platform from Foundation Center that will be accessible to all Philanthropy Southwest members.

It was a "wow" experience!
by Linda May, Board Chair, The Simmons Foundation and Legislative Network Committee Member, Philanthropy Southwest

Philanthropy Southwest (PSW) was well represented on Capitol Hill March 18-19 during the annual Foundations on the Hill (FOTH) event. Twenty participants met in DC to represent PSW's seven-state region...our largest delegation ever.

FOTH is hosted by the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers, in partnership with the Council on Foundations. The two-day event brings foundation leaders to DC for meetings with Congress about key issues of importance to foundations and the philanthropic sector.

2015 Family Foundations Forum

June 8 - 10, Williamsburg, VA

This year, we are again excited to be in partnership with the Southeastern Council of Foundations to present a family-focused event featuring a series of interactive, multigenerational educational sessions to help you further your mission and increase your grantmaking impact.

The gathering this year will also feature Leading by Design: A special retreat for family foundation CEOs, presented by the National Center for Family Philanthropy just prior to the full family gathering.

Lions, Tigers, Bears ... Nonprofits and Funders

First animal conference held in Oklahoma City

The first-ever Animal Conference sought to inspire and inform those who are personally and professionally part of the animal-wellbeing community, including nonprofits and foundations. Held in Oklahoma City and hosted by the Kirkpatrick Foundation, the conference brought together a wide range of participants from across the country, some of whom are ideologically-opposed to one another: participants from animal shelter workers to farmers, ranchers, veterinarians and animal-science professionals. Advocates and policy leaders worked to find common ground in the interest of improving the safe and humane treatment of animals. Speakers addressed the critical importance of working together, noting the incredible rate at which the world is losing species.
