Denver Program Highlights Foundation Investment Performance
Upcoming Webinar will offer additional opportunity hear findings

Attendees of Philanthropy Southwest's executive briefing, held in Denver on July 23 at the offices of the Boettcher Foundation, got a first look and in-depth explanation of new data highlighting the performance of foundation investments.

Bill Jarvis, head of research at the Commonfund Institute, addressed Denver attendees and presented a custom report that compared the performance of all foundations in the survey to that of Philanthropy Southwest members surveyed. The "2013 Study of Investments for Private Foundations," produced by Commonfund in partnership with the Council on Foundations, had been released earlier that day, and Jarvis' remarks were the first given to a group.
We are pleased to offer another opportunity via webinar to learn about the survey results. Register for the webinar on September 9.
House Passes America Gives Act
Next up: Consideration in the Senate

On July 17th, the United States House of Representatives passed an important legislative package impacting philanthropy, the America Gives More Act of 2014 (H.R. 4719), with a bipartisan super-majority vote of 277 to 130. While a sizable number of Democrats voted against the bill because of concerns over how to pay for these provisions, they nonetheless expressed support for the policies advanced by the charitable provisions in the bill. The bill would make the IRA charitable rollover permanent law, thereby changing it from an "extender" that must be reenacted every year or two. It would also simplify the private foundation excise tax on net investment income to a single rate of one percent.

The Council has developed an informative toolkit with information specific to H.R. 4719. And while the 2014 Congressional Summer Recess is winding down, communicating with elected officials can happen year-round. We encourage you to reach out to your Senators and convey your thoughts about the America Gives More Act.  More
