Just making a piece of toast

How many times have you made a piece of toast. It is something I regularly do for myself and 3 hungry girls. It seems like a very simple task. But for the person with dementia, this (or other tasks) might not be so easy anymore.

In fact, as a person moves into the middle stages of dementia, making toast is no longer a simple task.  But this task, like others, CAN still be accomplished.  It just needs the right support and set-up.

My mother keeps calling about the tv remote

This is an issue I came across often when seeing people with dementia in occupational therapy.  Some families had difficulty understanding why their loved one would not watch tv on the nice tv with remote that they had set-up.

I would teach them how individuals with dementia become overwhelmed and  confused when there are too many choices.  Have you seen remotes these days?  I don't even know what half the buttons are for.  So how might the person with dementia have an easier time using the tv?
